Marine Research Associate

BASIC FUNCTION:

Provide substantial leadership and technical support of an advanced and independent nature and assume administrative and program budgeting responsibilities for Coastal Resources Center’s (CRC) US program and RI Sea Grant’s (RISG) coastal management efforts, with an emphasis on coastal resilience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Serve as the lead for CRC’s and RI Sea Grant Extension team’s coastal resilience portfolio.
  • Instruct, mentor, and supervise professional staff, graduate students, and others in project efforts.
  • Prepare and manage work plans, budgets, and progress reports to meet CRC and other funder requirements.
  • Collaborate with RI Sea Grant research, communications, legal, and workforce development teams in support of RI Sea Grant’s strategic plan and represent RI Sea Grant in the broader national Sea Grant network’s committees or Community of Practice.
  • Work collaboratively with community, state, and national public and private partners to develop and implement sustainable actions that build capacity and respond to the accelerated need and demand for coastal resilience and associated actions to adapt to climate change.
  • Provide direct technical support to government, non-profit, industry, or community organizations in the field of coastal resilience, climate change adaptation, or floodplain management.
  • Partner and engage the academic community in project work that encourages applied research and informed decision making.
  • Work with communities and partners to explore and support diversification, sustainability, and social equity through capacity building, strategies, and actions for resilience.
  • Develop research proposals, write technical reports, and contribute to professional papers for publication.
  • Conduct literature research, gap analysis, and provide recommendations to build capacity, plan, and implement resilience actions in Rhode Island, the Northeast, and the United States.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assume budget and administrative responsibility and serve as Principal Investigator (PI) for future proposals.
  • Participate in meetings and conferences with granting agencies and other relevant organizations.
  • Must be able to travel to attend out-of-state week-long workshops/conferences. Must be able to travel in-state to attend weeknight and weekend meetings.
