Marine Species and Turbidity Monitor (Part-time)

RES is looking for a qualified Marine Species Observer/Turbidity Monitor based out of our Fort Lauderdale or Miami, FL office.

The mission: Our Florida team is providing environmental protection during PortMiami construction, and we are looking for qualified staff to conduct marine species observations and turbidity monitoring.  We are looking part time staff to support seven-day-a-week shifts for eight months, with the opportunity for the position to grow into a permanent scientist role. 

What your day-to-day might look like?

You will be in the field for 12-hour shifts, one to three days a week including weekends, performing the following from a barge and small watercraft:

  • Marine Endangered Species observation
  • Turbidity monitoring
  • Daily reporting

Note that we perform these tasks in Florida’s hot, humid environment for extend periods of time, in natural and disturbed land settings with potential exposure to biting and stinging insects, venomous snakes and spiders, wild animals and other hazards, so being an outdoorsperson is necessary to thrive in this position.

Qualifications

We would love to talk to you if you have of the following:

  • Qualified FDEP marine species observer or a B.S. in marine environmental science-related field
  • Experience conducting turbidity sampling for construction projects

What will make you stand out? 

  • OSHA 10 training
  • Experience with GPS and GIS
  • Experience with Survey123 and mapping
  • Ability to operate a boat or small water craft
  • Familiarity with South Florida marine species
