Job DescriptionWe are looking for a Market Development Business Analyst to join our team. This role is critical in ensuring our operations comply with market codes and regulatory frameworks while supporting our commitment to excellence and innovation.What you will be doing as the Market Development Business Analyst:
You will play a key role in guiding Thames Water through the complexities of market codes, competition law requirements, and company governance arrangements. You will leverage your expertise to ensure our wholesale services meet legal and regulatory standards, while also supporting strategic initiatives, mitigating corporate risks and driving a great customer experience.Key responsibilities:
Legal and Regulatory Compliance:

  • Provide expert guidance on market and competition law, ensuring Thames Water’s operations align with market codes and governance requirements.
  • Develop, amend, and withdraw wholesale services based on market codes, customer needs, and legal requirements.
  • Publish pricing information to meet regulatory deadlines and implement a pricing strategy to mitigate corporate risks.
  • Ensure all published documents relating to wholesale services are current and align with relevant policies.

Strategic Analysis and Reporting:

  • Manage responses to regulatory consultations, including those from Ofwat, WaterUK and MOSL.
  • Assess upcoming changes to market codes and mechanisms, consulting with experts to identify impacts and advising senior management.
  • Track changes to codes and market mechanisms to ensure continued compliance, providing management information, analysis, and commentary.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, representing Thames Water at market forums and working groups.
  • Ensure all parties work effectively together to deliver and maintain a high quality Wholesale Service Offering and Wholesale Tariff Document to regulatory and business deadlines and market leading standards.
  • Provide expert advice to help influence and inform colleagues/managers across the business in relation to the creation, amendment and withdrawal of services. Ensuring the impacts are assessed effectively and change is managed in line with corporate control processes.

What you should bring to the role:

  • In-depth knowledge of legal, regulatory, and market frameworks, particularly within the water industry.
  • Experience in Non-Household Retail, Developer Services, NAV, and SLP markets, with a focus on customer benefits.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to analyse complex information and provide detailed management reports.
  • Proven experience in responding to consultations from regulatory bodies and market participants.
  • Highly analytical with excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
  • Proactive approach with the ability to build strong internal and external relationships.

  • A starting salary of £43,200 and up to £54,000 per annum depending on skills and experience
  • Annual Leave – 26 days holiday per year increasing to 30 with the length of service. (Plus bank holidays).
