The role
Reporting to the Business Manager, you will be a valued member of our Business Development Team. Collaborating with our specialists, your primary purpose is to plan, create, implement, execute and oversee our marketing and communications strategies to deliver an effective brand identity, improve brand awareness, promote growth, increase adoptions and income, and describe our organisation’s programs and its services, whether it be internal or external.
- Develop and implement internal and external communications strategies and plans that engage key audiences, enhance AWLQs brand, and promote the organisation’s work to support its goals.
- Lead communication projects and continuous improvement opportunities within agreed timeframes and budget, such as the annual impact report, print and digital publications, marketing collateral, campaigns and initiatives.
- Use exceptional communication skills to tell compelling stories to a diverse audience across various mediums.
- Develop and maintain strong media relations, using high-level PR acumen to comfortably work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment, proactively (and reactively) crafting high-quality media releases and statements.
- Build positive relationships with media contacts, finding ways to generate positive publicity and managing unplanned media requests.
- Build and maintain positive, strong and cooperative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to the Business Development Team projects, identifying and maximising income stream opportunities.
- Provide regular reporting on communication plans, campaigns and initiatives to demonstrate their effectiveness to relevant internal stakeholders and identify improvement opportunities.
- Manage, lead, and develop digital marketing and photography staff and volunteers to the highest levels of performance, engagement, and job satisfaction.
- Work closely with the Business Manager to manage the budget, develop annual business plans, and assist with managing complex issues, change projects, and initiatives.

Key criteria
- Tertiary qualification in marketing, communications, media or related discipline
- 3-5 years’ minimum experience in a similar role
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
- Awareness of the media landscape and experience in public relations
- Demonstrated skills and experience in strategic planning
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Proven ability to take initiative and innovate
- Track record of achieving targets in a small, high-performance team with limited resources
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a team environment to achieve common goals
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
- Valid Driver’s Licence, Police Check, and Vulnerable Persons Check
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience with not-for-profit organisations
- Understanding of companion animal welfare needs in the community
- Experience with creative content software packages, including Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar
