As the Marketing and Communications Manager, you will be responsible for delivering exciting and engaging communications for the Harlequins Foundation, playing a key part in raising awareness of our work and supporting the delivery of our programmes, fundraising and awareness raising activity.This is an incredible opportunity for a marketing professional with an excellent knowledge of working across all elements of the marketing mix to make a difference with our impactful organisation. Working closely with the Head of Fundraising and Engagement and leading a small communications team, your focus will be on delivering our communications through a wide range of traditional and digital channels.This role will have huge variety, requiring strong communication skills with both internal and external audiences, great organisational skills and experience of delivering content to a variety of audiences within the charity sector. You will also possess excellent time-management, an ability to plan and think strategically, and good knowledge of brand building and communicating effectively to different audiences.
Some weekend and evening working will be required as part of the role.With the support of the Head of Fundraising and Engagement, develop and deliver the Foundation’s marketing and engagement strategy, providing narrative, messaging and a case for support aligned with our purpose that is delivered through a variety of channels to reach our target audiences

  • Plan and oversee the operational communications schedule for the Foundation with the goal of driving the growth of our supporter base and ensuring high quality throughout our communications
  • With the support of the Head of Fundraising and Engagement, manage the Harlequins Foundation brand ensuring all elements are consistent and high quality
  • Manage mass external email communications, overseeing the scheduling of all emails and that content is relevant, on brand, and of a suitable tone of voice
  • Lead on the delivery of all Foundation external and internal publications, ensuring consistency in delivery of the brand and key messages
  • Deliver marketing campaigns to ensure our programmes are reaching our target audiences, maximising participant numbers and ensuring we grow awareness of our delivery
  • Deliver marketing and communications to support the Foundation to raise funds, ensuring supporter care is at the forefront of our external communications
  • Manage the Foundation section of the website, including creating regular content to promote our programmes and fundraising activity, and ensuring all content is up to date and refreshed regularly
  • Support the delivery of our Ambassadors Programme, ensuring we best utilise the profile and reach of our ambassadors
  • Work closely with relevant individuals within the Club to ensure the Foundation is represented and maximises engagement opportunities offered by the Harlequins audience(s)
  • Ensure timely reporting of key metrics for communications performance, including email subscribers and engagement, social media metrics, website performance and media monitoring
  • To personally champion and drive a culture of digital and data awareness and expertise throughout the Foundation
  • Ensure relevant processes are in place to deliver a successful marketing and communications programme that is GDPR and data compliant at all times
  • Cultivate and maintain excellent working relationships with key stakeholders, including but not limited to Harlequin FC, their partners and sponsors, press and media contacts, suppliers and delivery partners and Foundation supporters
  • Represent the Foundation both internally and externally, acting as an ambassador for the Foundation and advocating for our work

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or demonstrable equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience in a professional environment in a marketing or communications role, or similar
  • Experience of working within the sports charity/sports sector
  • Clear understanding of the digital landscape and keen interest in technological developments and advances in this area
  • Professional experience of communications to drive audience engagement, with proven tangible results in growing audiences
  • Previous experience of managing mass email/communications database
  • Competent user of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and experience of CRM systems and website management tools
  • Data driven with experience of using data to make decisions around marketing and communication activity
  • Ability to build excellent relationships and a confidence in networking and working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience of working with high-net-worth individuals, celebrities or professional athletes would be an advantage
  • Ability to work in a results-driven role

Desirable

  • Existing contacts with media and journalism industry
  • Line management experience and an ability to lead a small team Skills, abilities, and knowledge
  • Excellent knowledge of communications, marketing and the charity sector
  • Highly organised with excellent planning and coordination skills and a meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong communications skills and an ability to tailor a message to suit different audiences
  • Demonstrates both creative and operational thinking and judgement
  • Able to think long-term and support the strategic development of the Foundation
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to work with others to reach mutually beneficial outcomes
  • Ability to keep calm under pressure and maintain a clear head, anticipating risks and adapting to different business needs
  • Experience in managing a diverse workload with multiple deadlines and to be able to prioritise when needed
