Summary of Job Duties:

The Marketing & Communications Specialist will be responsible for creating, editing and disseminating press releases, executing email marketing campaigns for the alumni newsletter, and providing copy editing and writing services for various communications materials. In addition, the Marketing & Communication Specialist will work closely with the marketing and communications team and internal partners to ensure consistent messaging and brand alignment, as well as analyze campaign performance for continuous improvement.
Primary responsibilities include:
· Drafting, editing, and submitting press releases to University Relations for local, regional, and national media outlets about initiatives, accomplishments, and developments at the college
· Authoring content and distributing the monthly alumni e-mail newsletter highlighting programs, student and alumni spotlights and achievements.
· Occasionally assisting with copy editing and drafting blog posts to engage audiences on the college’s website.
· Tracking and reporting on media placements and engagement metrics via our Truescope monitoring platform.
This is a part-time flexible (estimated 10-25 hours per week), hourly role with more of the work taking place in the Fall and Spring semesters and a bit less in the Summer. The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of related communications, public relations, marketing or journalism experience and proficiency with CRMs, email marketing platforms and MS Office suite.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a closely related field OR at least two (2) years of related work experience

  • At least 1year of demonstrated experience in writing and editing, particularly press releases

  • Demonstrated experience with email marketing campaigns

  • Proficiency with MSOffice

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a closely related field

  • Experience in a communications role within a higher education institution

  • Experience with digital marketing tools and analytics

  • Experience in working in a project management software, such as ClickUp

  • Experience in working with an e-mail marketing platform such as Axios, Mailchimp, Constant Contact or similar software platforms

  • Familiarity with content management systems

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on clear, concise, and persuasive messaging

  • Strong editing and proofreading abilities to ensure accuracy and consistency in all materials

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Skilled at using email marketing software and understanding of email marketing strategies

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of best practices in press release distribution and media relations.

  • Strong analytical skills to assess the effectiveness of communication strategies.

  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
