About This Position

Part of this work requires us to address the historic inequities within the environmental and conservation fields, which is why the Massachusetts Climate Corps (MCC) was created. The MCC aims to empower young professionals from underrepresented communities to become leaders in the environmental and conservation fields. We strive to do this by providing meaningful summer career opportunities at Mass Audubon sanctuaries and/or partner organizations on various climate focused projects initiatives. The Corps is designed to support young adults in refining their professional goals, propelling them forward in their careers, and building the foundation to grow into experts and conservation thought leaders in their respective fields.

Under the guidance and support of the Director of Early Career Programs, the Early Career Science Lead, and Mass Audubon ecologists and staff the Corps Leader serves as the point person for a team of four Massachusetts Climate Corps participants to strengthen Mass Audubon’s climate resilience projects at our sanctuaries.

Responsibilities
The Corps Leader engages with their supervisors to develop, delegate, and carry out climate resilience projects for the Massachusetts Climate Corps. Activities mainly include supervision and delegation of daily field work, supervision and training of MCC team.

• Lead the supervision and training of MCC team members (facilitation of team meetings, demonstration of climate restoration field techniques, support with summer research projects, etc.)
• Complete administrative work for MCC corps members (organize team meetings, sign time sheets, etc.) 
• Drive MCC team members to various Mass Audubon sanctuaries for field work and/or professional development opportunities (Mass Audubon vehicle will be provided)
• Support the Director of Early Career Programs in the coordination of the summer Early Career Programs symposium
• Participate in leadership, field work, DEIJA, and climate resilience/ecological stewardship trainings and workshops
• Lead fieldwork supporting climate resilience/restoration projects at Mass Audubon sanctuaries such as: salt marsh vegetation surveys, water quality sampling, invasive species management, macro-invertebrate sampling, and other pre-restoration monitoring activities in wetlands

We are looking for applicants with the following qualifications:

• Must be enrolled in or have completed a Bachelor’s or advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) program in the following programs: biology, conservation, environmental education, environmental science, etc. or equivalent experience
• Supervisory experience preferred
• A commitment to practicing conservation through a lens of equity and inclusion
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
• Solid skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook)
• Training and experience pertinent to the projects listed above
• Experience educating students, community members, and/or volunteers
• Experience in conducting field work and research projects
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, on all types of terrain and in all weather conditions
• Valid driver’s license and insurance; 3 years driving experience

Compensation, Benefits and Perks
This position’s pay range is $25.00/hour; actual salary will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements. This is not a benefits eligible position.

Work Schedule
This position begins on June 17, 2024 and ends on August 21, 2024. Full time schedule of 40 hours, Monday through Friday.

Other Requirements
Employees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check and a Motor Vehicle Record (if applicable) is required.
