Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft

tendersglobal.net

As one of 76 institutes of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft we show how to not only master crises, but grow from them. Pushing boundaries. Always trying something new. Not just thinking, but thinking ahead. We turn research into the future.

We want an earth that is worth living on. With our applied research on Circular Economy, Carbon Management, Green Hydrogen and Local Energy Systems, we make concrete contributions to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. Our employees conduct research in the fields of energy, environment, safety, health, communication and mobility.

Are you looking for an exciting Master’s thesis and would like to contribute to beneficial and meaningful research on the development of sustainable solutions? Our team »Computer-aided Engineering and Pilot Plants« is looking for your support and currently offers three interesting topics for Master’s theses. Please mention in your application which of the three topics you are particularly interested in.

What you will do

Master Thesis »CFD Optimization of a Co-Electrolysis Cell«

Would you like to contribute to top-level research in the field of co-electrolysis? You can expect the following tasks as part of this Master’s thesis:

  • Literature research on co-electrolysis processes and the related thermodynamic and fluid dynamic principles
  • Research on current CFD methods and optimization techniques for co-electrolysis cells
  • Development of a CFD model for the analysis and optimization of fluid dynamics within the co-electrolysis cell
  • Investigation of heat and mass transfer phenomena within the cell under different operating conditions
  • Validation of the simulation results using experimental data if necessary
  • Application of CFD simulations to improve the efficiency and performance of the co-electrolysis process

Master Thesis »Design of a Ventilation System for a Container Electrolysis Plant«

Would you like to contribute to the development of sustainable solutions as part of the European Green Deal? You can expect the following tasks in this Master’s thesis:

  • Literature research on thermodynamics, process engineering of co-electrolyzer systems and potentially explosive media and ventilation systems/air exchange solutions for systems
  • Thermodynamic design of an aeration system for a specific application in a container system (Excel or similar)
  • Planning and development of the ventilation system in CAD (SolidWorks)
  • Validation of the design of the air exchange behavior using data from the flow simulation behavior (CFD) in the test room (ANSYS CFX, Fluent or similar)
  • Efficiency and cost optimization of the ventilation system
  • Consideration of the scaling of the ventilation system as a modular unit

Master Thesis »CFD Analysis and Optimization of CO2 Bubbler System«

Are you enthusiastic about our research and interested in computational fluid dynamics (CFD)? You can expect the following tasks as part of this Master’s thesis:

  • Literature research on CO2, humidification processes and the principles of fluid dynamics
  • Research on existing CFD methods and optimization techniques applicable to bubbler systems
  • Development of a comprehensive CFD model for the analysis and optimization of fluid dynamics within the CO2 bubbler system (ANSYS Fluent)
  • Investigation of mass transfer phenomena, bubble dynamics and heat exchange within the system under different operating conditions
  • Validation of the simulation results using measurement data if necessary
  • Application of CFD simulations to improve the efficiency and performance of the bubbler system when wetting CO2

What you bring to the table

  • Ongoing studies with a focus on fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, process engineering, mechanical engineering or a similar field of study
  • Good knowledge of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) through coursework, projects or initial work experience and energy system design through project work or work experience
  • Pleasure in literature research and application of findings
  • Good communication skills and enjoy working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Good analytical skills to interpret CFD results and propose optimization strategies
  • Very good knowledge of German and English

What you can expect

  • As part of a dynamic team, you actively drive sustainable solutions for a resource-efficient future
  • Opportunity to combine your knowledge from your studies with practical experience at the interface between business and science and to integrate your own ideas
  • New Work, diversity and cooperative interaction are important components of our strategic orientation
  • Flexible working hours – we know that your studies come first
  • Flexible work locations that fit your studies – mobile work and on-site work are combined as needed
  • Intense support for the preparation of your final thesis
  • Health and mindfulness programs for good balance
