This role is responsible for:
The Media Associate is responsible for assisting with securing high-quality, strategic media coverage of Amnesty International’s brand, activist movement and campaigns.
The role develops and implements media tracking, research and media management activities to support integrated media plans. It also undertakes communications scheduling, maintains administrative systems that support campaigns, and other duties to support the success of Amnesty International Australia’s (AI Australia’s) campaigns.
You will have experience in:
- Reactive and proactive media activities including the development of media tactics and strategies, the production and distribution of high quality media materials, pitching and media liaison, monitoring and analysis of news media and ensuring effective integration of social media
- Development, maintenance and management of media documentation including plans, communications timelines, information resources, evaluations and organisational reporting
- Supporting the coordination of media events and support media-related logistics
- Developing and delivering digital and content briefs and relevant communications using a range of channels and technologies
- Working as part of a project team, taking minutes, maintaining files, task tracking and monitoring production timelines.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable building and maintaining warm, professional working relationships with staff, sector partners, key journalists, Amnesty activists and people with lived experience of the human rights issues AIA works on.

The salary for this position is $ $87,797 + super + not for profit salary packaging.

Selection Criteria:
- At least 1-2 years of experience in a media or communications position
- Strong written skills: media releases, interview briefs, spokesperson statements, blog posts
- Strong communication, interpersonal skills and stakeholder management
- Knowledge of media campaigning with experience working with or volunteering for a campaigning organisation
- Strong understanding of project management with well-developed time management and organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines and priorities
- Familiarity with human rights issues and social change methods and tactics
- Solid understanding of not for profit, and values-based organisations.
