Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) supports Johns Hopkins’ focus on research, teaching and patient care, and its role as a national and global leader in higher education. We create and foster enduring relationships that result in advocacy and philanthropic support for Johns Hopkins University & Medicine—strengthening the institution through partnerships with donors, alumni, volunteer leaders, faculty, students, staff, and patients.
Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model which includes four different work modalities. This role has a hybrid work arrangement with an onsite presence of 3 days per week. The manager will confirm the team’s core onsite days where the majority/all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel on university business can count those days towards their onsite days.
The Lifelong Learning team in the Office of Alumni Relations supports a multitude of virtual and hybrid events and other media content that provides opportunity for our alumni and community to engage with Johns Hopkins. This content strategist role requires a mix of knowledge about the technology used in production studios, online classrooms, and web 2.0 technologies. This position works with faculty and institutional leaders to deliver live video content, as well as Development and Alumni Relations staff to create, curate, edit, and catalog other forms of media.
The Media Generalist will provide continued operational strategy, creation and support of all lifelong learning virtual initiatives (i.e., Odyssey and Professional and Industry programs) as well as relevant projects for OAR. One cornerstone program is Hopkins at Home, a collaborative initiative which started in March 2020 and brings Hopkins experts and influential community leaders into the homes of our alumni, friends, and community members via livestreamed lectures and lecture-and-discussion style, virtual short courses.
To meet the changing needs of our target demographic post-pandemic, the Media Generalist will also produce high quality, short-form on demand content and future in-studio, off-site, hybrid, and in-person productions. This content strategy will call for an increased communication, management and on-air coaching skills to coordinate effectively with community stakeholders, alumni and faculty presenters and more advanced pre- and post-production work so to engage alumni and donors across a greater variety of social media platforms. Working to meet stakeholder needs across the institution, the Media Generalist collaborates with colleagues in development communications, university communications, and university events to produce a polished, video experience for our audience.
The Media Generalist will also maintain / update the offices recording equipment and serve as one of the main operators of a new state-of-the-art production space at Mount Washington, a new frontier for OAR Lifelong Learning, requiring greater presence in the office for technical assistance and on-site production.
The position of Media Generalist will also include an increase in managerial responsibilities including recruitment, hiring and training to oversee a student position.
The Media Generalist should have meticulous attention to detail and a keen understanding of the ways to frame our speakers in the best light. We are looking for a person with a sense of curiosity for technology, openness to learning new skills, appreciation for the challenges of working in a digital and remote environment, and ability to adapt quickly to new experiences. A creative individual with an entrepreneurial spirit who has experience with live video production hardware and software would be ideal for this role.
