Position Title: Media Intern

Reports To: Manager (Missy) and Assistant Director (Spencer) 

Time Commitment: 500 hours

Housing: We provide housing at a designated location.

Payment: A stipend of $1500 (taxable) for meeting 500 hours.

Season dates: May to August (some flexibility with start and end dates)

Goal of the Internship Program: The goal of the North American Bear Center’s internship program is to give pre-professionals an opportunity to grow their social media management, marketing, and graphic design skills. This internship program is ideal for undergraduate and recent graduate students exploring careers in social media management, digital marketing, photography, graphic design, videography, etc. These fields of study will be given preference in the selection process. 

College Credit for Internship: We are happy to work with a college advisor so the intern can receive credit for this program, if requested prior to beginning the internship. 

Expectations for all interns:

  • Represent the NABC in a positive manner with visitors, vendors, donors, members, and the community.
  • Uphold the Mission Statement of the North American Bear Center.
  • Interact effectively with a diverse group of staff, interns, volunteers and visitors.
  • Follow and adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Arrive to work on time and strictly adhere to the NABC dress code.
  • Learn and follow all NABC protocols.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on Ambassador Bears and wild bear behavior and biology.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on local wildlife and our captive small animals.
  • Work ~45 hours (sometimes more) per week including weekends and holidays.
  • Continued learning of all information at the NABC.
  • Good observation, judgment, and problem solving skills.
  • Be reliable and motivated.
  • Successful completion of NABC training.

Primary duties and responsibilities for Media Intern:

  • Posting, monitoring, and growing all NABC social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
  • Create avenues of growth through new social media platforms.
  • Monitoring and responding to online reviews.
  • Capturing photos and videos of all activities, programs, and events.
  • Create images and graphics for online store, education materials, fundraising events, and other marketing materials.
  • Create logos, banners, brochures and special event materials.
  • Capturing new and updated photos/videos of the center itself, merchandise, and our resident animals.
  • Participate in animal training to become familiar and comfortable with our animals, their behavior, and personalities. This will include bears and various small reptiles and amphibians.
  • Learn about the NABC and its mission to grow our supporters.

Required Abilities/Skills: 

  • Stand for long periods
  • Navigate efficiently over uneven ground
  • Be self motivated and creative
  • Able to get along with people that are different than yourself
  • Able to work and live with others
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to conduct yourself in a professional and mature manner in the workplace

Required Personal Traits: 

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Fluent in English language
  • Willing to work independently and with others
  • Comfortable working with diverse groups of people
