Context

Ghana like many countries within the sub-region and on the African continent has been through turbulent regimes before the attainment of democracy. Ghana’s democracy just like any other presents a host of democratic indicators which includes respect for fundamental human rights, respect for the rule of law, a multi-political party system paired with political tolerance. Most importantly, freedom of speech and elections.
Since 1992, has successfully conducted eight elections, which are adversarial with reported sporadic incidents of violence. However, the growth of hate speech, abusive campaign rhetoric in both online and offline media as well as in public settings and reported cases of electoral malpractices are among the main variables that typically foreshadow violence and heighten tension during elections. These several factors are exacerbated by the ubiquity of the internet, artificial intelligence, and the deployment of social media by political actors looms large on political campaigns.
UN in Ghana seeks to collaborate with online volunteers who are passionate and dedicated in the area of media to provide rapid media monitoring of Ghana’s 2024 election. Candidates must have strong capabilities in relevant research methods, which could include social network analysis, statistical analysis, and open-ended data mining.

Task description

Analyzing social media metrics and generating reports to evaluate the political trends in the country.
Monitor and report on analytics across all social media platforms to provide insights on political campaigns and identify opportunities for optimization and risks for mitigation.
Collect and report data in order to better understand the political environment.
