Responsibilities of your role
Reporting into the Head of Communications, this 12-month parental leave contract will lead a small team and oversee the development and management of the media relations and community engagement program for MSF in Australia and New Zealand.
With the overall objective of increasing the visibility and engagement of MSF’s medical and humanitarian actions this accountable role will focus on:
- Developing and implementing the media strategy and delivering the community engagement work plan;
- Maintaining strong relationships with journalists and media outlets to coordinate media opportunities and reach media targets;
- Providing strategic advice and briefings to executive and board spokespersons;
- Overseeing speakers and presentations at internal and external events;
- Supporting with crisis communications during critical events.
What you will bring
As an established communications professional, you are recognised for your integrity, your ability to critically assess engagement risks, and talent for identifying opportunities to enhance media visibility.
You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are motivated by the mission of our medical humanitarian organisation. Ideally you can demonstrate:
- Tertiary qualifications in communications
- At least five years of experience in media relations, strategic communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field, preferably within non-profits
- Demonstrated strong knowledge of the Australian and New Zealand media landscape including relevant media contacts
- Proven people management experience
- Community engagement experience
- Strategy, budgeting, project management and campaign management experience
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills including experience with writing and editing press releases, opinion pieces and press releases.
