- The Medical Advisor will report to the Therapy Area Medical Lead and will play a meaningful role in providing support to the Oncology franchises, with a chance to create a difference to the therapy area. Janssen has a heritage in Oncology providing innovative treatments for people. To underline its dedication to these therapy areas, they have been designated as Disease Area Strongholds within Janssen, thereby ensuring that they receive focus in terms of pipeline development support and talent recruitment.
- To provide hybrid medical leadership in the development of the growing Oncology portfolio including current/future assets.
- In collaboration with Market Access function optimise market access and reimbursement for our assets by demonstrating scientific and evidence generation expertise internally and with external partners.
- To be a therapeutic area expert, responsible for engaging on a peer-to-peer basis with a defined audience of external Leading Specialists (LS) and indirectly via the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team with the broader clinician base
- To evaluate all proposals for IISs against the global development strategy and be an advocate for the UK community
The Medial Advisor role will be a rewarding position involving work at all levels from outset for a commercial minded senior industry professional with a passion for medical affair activities. Janssen office-based positions are operated typically three days onsite and two days from ‘home’ (i.e., flexi-working) at managers discretionCore Functional Responsibilities, But Are Not Limited ToTherapy area knowledge:
- Have understanding of NHS issues affecting therapy area, including NHS priorities and market access issues/barriers.
- Understand how data sources contribute to the evidence generation plan.
- Help identify data gaps and propose a strategy to address them.
- Conduct literature searches, analyse clinical papers, attend conferences, courses, and other events to be abreast of the latest advances in relevant therapy areas.
- Identify evolving scientific concepts with future clinical implications
Customer excellence:
- Actively engage with key clinicians, academics and payers to build a keen awareness of customer needs and to utilise the insights to deliver projects that are mutually value adding.
- Exchange disease area knowledge and opinions in order to understand the emerging views on our products for early identification of key opportunities and barriers.
- Increase the customers’ understanding of our portfolio and to seek their advice on the development of our products.
- Handle and maintain positive relationship with leading Specialists.
- Understand the needs in evidence generation to support ongoing requirements of therapy area and product.
Evidence generation:
- Contribute to preparation and conduct of investigator meetings for company sponsored studies (CSS); recruitment follow-up and study result presentation.
- Align with R&D and GCO therapy area leads on trial site strategy for CSS.
- Be UK Lead for field-based Investigator Initiated Studies (ISS), Early Access Programs, or Real-World Evidence projects with MSL support.
- Lead field evidence generation projects through Global approval with support from wider oncology MSL team for further approval (PRP and Recap) and implementation.
Internal collaboration:
- Contribute to the development of the Oncology assets value Proposition in conjunction with traditional Integrated Brand Value Teams (IBVT) / Country Value Teams (CVT) roles, identifying and addressing data gaps to continually strengthen the value proposition.
- Familiar with NICE submissions and guidelines and drive value and support to health economic teams to gain health care reimbursement.
- Proactively engage EMEA/Global collaborators to ensure UK has a share of voice
- Utilise customer insights to give to cross-functional (marketing, medical, outcomes research, Business intelligence and communications) brand strategic and tactical plans.
- Maintain knowledge of all relevant local country specific differences, for example applicability of the ABPI Code of Practice in the UK, and the potential impact these differences may have on marketing a product, performing a clinical trial in the UK or holding an educational event there.
- Assist Medical Education Manager with delivery of aligned Medical Education projects as appropriate.
QualificationsKnowledge, Experience and Skills
- ABPI code of practice final signatory status is a pre-requisite.
- Qualified physician/pharmacist with post registration clinical experience (+5yrs) is preferred.
- Prior experience working in the field of Oncology is preferred.
- Commercially astute with good communication and negotiation skills whilst ensuring recognition and awareness of clinical reality and medical pragmatism.
- A very strong open, collaborative and leading ethical with a desire to succeed in the Medical Affairs environment.
- Excellent analytical skills, demonstrated by the ability to identify and understand sophisticated issues and problems, and interpret information in a manner that provides appropriate recommendations to senior leadership, marketing, and sales
- Familiar with NICE submissions and guidelines, and are passionate about growing access to our innovative medicines in the UK to patients with the highest unmet needs
- Comfortable working with local investigators on prospective clinical, HEOR and RWE studies.
- A proven track record to apply sophisticated scientific resources for presentations in a variety of different settings is required.
- Hands on work mentality, together with excellent Medical Affairs and preferably clinical development abilities.
- Strong teammate with the ability to empower others and succeed in a highly coordinated group environment.
- Able to travel to domestic and international scientific meetings.
- Must be fully cognizant of all relevant sophisticated scientific data and regulatory requirements for field-based personnel.
- Excels in building key relationships with key stakeholders; KOLs and Peers.
- Product launch experience
- May require up to 20-30% Travel
