The Department of Bariatric Surgery is currently seeking a full time Medical Assistant 3 to work in Doral. The Medical Assistant 3 performs a variety of routine duties, with more complexity, in a hospital or clinic to assist medical and nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients. This role demonstrates advanced skills and expertise in a variety of work processes, while working as a team lead coordinating the work of others and providing quality review/performance improvement.
Core Responsibilities
Obtains vital signs and patient information for inclusion in the patient’s medical record. Administers injections or treatments, performs routine laboratory tests, and assists in other patient care activities, such as dressing changes and leg wraps. Prepares treatment room for examination of patient. Assists with physical examinations by preparing supplies and handing instruments and materials to the doctor as directed. Provides patients with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures. Cleans and sterilizes medical instruments while observing the principles of sterile technique. Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work. Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation. Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies and escorts and transports patients to various hospital locations. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Department Specific Functions
Obtains vital signs and patient information for inclusion in the patient’s medical record. Prepares treatment room for examination. Assists with physical examinations by preparing supplies and handling instruments/materials to the doctor as directed. Assists providers with minor in-office procedures. Provides patients with basic instructions and information regarding examination procedures. Cleans and sterilizes medical instruments; observes the principles of sterile technique in performing duties. Cleans and sterilizes medical Instruments; observes the principles of sterile technique in performing duties. Schedules patients for tests and complete required forms for lab work. Maintain accurate and complete patient record/documentation. Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies and assists in performing clerical duties. Escorts and transports patient to various hospital locations. Ensure all remote/resident clinics are appropriately reconciled within 72 hours. Ensure all studies ordered at remote clinics are performed at the vascular lab or our office, with approved exceptions. Contact affected patients and re-schedule vascular studies as necessary/recommended in a timely manner. Responsible for daily supervision of electronic fax cue. Review, print, clean out, distribute as necessary. Daily review and appropriate follow up of overnight answering service messages. Work in conjunction with surgical scheduling team to ensure timely handling and seamless transition of all clinic-generated surgical cases. Work in conjunction with management to prioritize essential operational tasks and distribute workload accordingly. Assist management with billing reports, documentation deficiency reports and other administrative duties as assigned. Travel to multiple sites / locations as required by operational and support needs of the Department. Any other functions as required by Department’s operational needs.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent
Certification and Licensing:
Certified Medical Assistant Certification required.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
