The section of Transition Medicine (TM) is seeking a reliable Medical Assistant I to be a part of the TM group to support our clinicians providing services to patients. The candidate will have primarily MA I responsibilities (performing routine patient care i.e. rooming/vitals) and scheduling for TM providers. This position will assist in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of the physician. Main responsibilities include interviewing patient, measuring vital signs (i.e. pulse rate, temperature, manual blood pressure, weight and height) and record information on the patient electronic chart using EPIC. Shifts will include 7:30-4:30 or 8:00-5:00; Monday- Friday.
Job Duties
Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as rooming and vital signs.
Documents the primary complaint/reason for the visit.
Collects patient social history, enters/reconciles medications into patient’s chart, and updates patient’s pharmacy.
Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned, which may include: scanning patient medical records; obtaining outside labs/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information; completing forms/requisitions as needed during the visit.
Performs clinic procedures such as point of care influenza, strep, pregnancy, urine dipstick, ear irrigation, administering immunizations/medications (Intramuscular injections), providing nebulizer treatment, setting up pap smear tray, assisting provider with wound care, and, PPD placement.
Maintains refrigerator temperature log.
Stocks exam rooms with needed supplies and forms. Makes a list of clinic supplies, immunization, and medication needed before using the last stock.
Works with providers on extended clinic hours and assigns to cover clinic during lunchtime.
Cross covers other Department of Medicine sections as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and completion of an approved Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
No experience required.
Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NHA, NAHP, or AMCA). New employees who are not currently certified, must obtain certification within six months of employment.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.
