Summary
Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a Medical Assistant who is comfortable utilizing technology to engage with patients, providers and sleep technologists. This position is in at the Diagnostic Sleep Center and works with patients and our sleep technologists to provide diagnostic sleep services. Experience with Sleep Medicine is desired for this role. The medical assistant will work directly with sleep technologists and providers to provide high quality patient care.
Job Duties
- Distributes and educates patients on the use of diagnostic sleep equipment.
- Cleans and stocks medical and diagnostic supplies.
- Confirms patient appointments for equipment pick-up and drop off.
- Reviews patient paperwork prior to patient appointments.
- Obtains referring provider information and request relevant medical records and referrals prior to appointment.
- Displays proficiency in ability to successfully obtain vital signs.
- Assists in scheduling sleep procedures.
- Answers patient calls in a competent, professional and timely manner.
- Assists clinicians and sleep technologists with uploading diagnostic sleep tests into Electronic Health Record (EMR).
- Assists clinicians with sleep test orders and prior authorizations.
- Utilizes EMT (Epic) in interactions with patients and referring provider offices for documentation.
- Utilizes imaging software (PACS) to upload images.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
- Two years of relevant experience.
- Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NHA, NAHP, or AMCA). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in Sleep Medicine.
- Previous experience using electronic health records.
Other
Physical Risks: Potential exposures to blood borne pathogens (blood &/or other potentially infectious materials), drugs, chemicals, radiation, and physical hazards found in patient clinics, hospitals and/or laboratory work environments and in working directly with patients and other employees. Initial Blood borne Pathogens Training is required, and a Blood borne Pathogens Refresher Training must be taken annually.
