MEDICAL DOCTOR (Pediatrician)
Based in Baghdad/ Sadir City
Médecins sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is an international humanitarian organization providing assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflicts, irrespective of race, religion, creed or political convictions. Main Purpose of the position:
Provide outpatient and/or inpatient medical care to patients/beneficiaries according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, MSF protocols, values and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients/beneficiaries’ health conditions.
Accountabilities:
- Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevention. Carry out outpatient and inpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment respecting MSF
- Ensure the patients are being informed about the illness, being provided necessary treatment and effective quality of care.
- Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and take care the quality, disinfection and sterilization of the medical material. Assure general compliance with standing hygiene standards.
- Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity and informing the line manager or project coordinator about any problem or complication of the patient’s illness, medical error and monitors the proper functioning of the department, equipment or material.
- Ensure ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team in order to optimize the quality of care.
- Knows and ensures all MSF medical protocols are followed and implemented, checking universal precautions are always followed and reducing bio-hazard risks and improving infection control. Ensure professional confidentiality is respected.
- Manage the team under his/her direct responsibility according to MSF HR policies and procedures, supervising their performance, organizing and scheduling shifts and rotations, directly participating in emergencies and on calls if necessary.
- In colaboration with TB-MAM and MSF doctor, implement TB pediatric strategies and activities for the target population in the selected health facilities in Sadar City.
- Mentoring PHC DOH doctors in TB diagnosis for children, including evaluation of Chest Xrays
- Collaborate closely with MFS CHE and other stakeholders to promote TB awareness, prevention and control initiatives
- Monthly data collection, analysis, and reporting on TB pediatric activities, ensuring accurate documentation of outcomes and lessons learned.
- Stay informed about developments in pediatric TB screening, diagnosis and prevention strategies
- Work in close collaboration with NTP Rusafa staff
- Adhere to MSF’s principles and protocols, including medical ethics, confidentiality, and humanitarian principles, in all aspects of work.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
Requirements:
Education
Medical Doctor. Specialist in paediatrics Essential
Desirable – POST Graduate diploma in TB/Tropical Medicine or public health
Experience
2 years minimum experience as a pediatrician, including experience in care and management of TB
Knowledge
· Good writing skills.
· Creative and flexible approach to work, and ability to work well within a team.
· Being flexible on job requirement is important.
