Brief description of the organization

Yazda is a non-governmental, non-profit organization established in 2014 in response to the genocide committed by the self-declared Islamic State (“IS”) against the Yazidis and other communities in Iraq and Syria. Since its inception, Yazda has worked with local and international partners to provide Yazidi survivors, IDPs, and refugees with humanitarian, accountability, and advocacy services in their post-genocide recovery. Yazda has been working in Iraq since October 2014 and operates out of the main offices in Duhok in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and out of the Sinoni office in Sinjar in Nineveh Province. Yazda is registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in the United States and is registered in Erbil, Baghdad, the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, and Australia.

Brief description about the MMU project:

Since 2016 the Mobile Medical Unit project has provided, Primary Health Care, NCD management, and MHPSS for 14 villages located in Sinuni and surrounding areas. The MMU team offers emergency transport, tracks patient data through a database, and provides essential medications and lab tests.

Position Summary:
The Medical Doctor will play a critical role in providing high-quality primary healthcare services as part of Yazda’s Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) project. The MMU aims to deliver essential healthcare, Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) management, and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) services to underserved communities in 14 hard-to-reach villages in the Sinjar area. The role includes diagnosing, treating, and managing patients, with a particular focus on integrating mental health services through mhGAP protocols.

Key Responsibilities

1. Primary Healthcare Services

• Conduct comprehensive medical consultations for patients presenting with various health conditions.
• Diagnose and manage acute and chronic illnesses, particularly NCDs such as diabetes and hypertension.
• Provide preventive healthcare services, including immunizations, screenings, and health education.

2. Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Management

• Screen, diagnose, and treat NCD patients based on evidence-based protocols.
• Monitor treatment adherence and provide follow-ups to ensure improved patient outcomes.
• Work closely with the pharmacy officer to ensure the proper supply and usage of medications.

3. Mental Health Integration (mhGAP)

• Utilize mhGAP protocols to identify and manage mental health conditions among patients.

4. Patient Education

• Educate patients on medication adherence, lifestyle modifications, and preventive measures.

5. Coordination and Collaboration

• Work closely with other MMU staff, including the nurse, CHO, pharmacy officer, and mental health team, to ensure comprehensive service delivery.

6. Data Management and Reporting

• Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in line with project requirements

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

• Education:
  MBChB or equivalent degree in Medicine from an accredited institution.
• Certification:
  Must be certified and licensed to practice as a Medical Doctor in Iraq.
• Experience:
  At least 3 years of clinical experience, with a preference for experience in rural or post-conflict settings.
• Specialized Training:
  Certification or prior training in mhGAP is mandatory (or willingness to undergo mhGAP training upon recruitment).
• Languages:
  Proficiency in Kurmanji, Arabic, and English is required.
