To foster national and international efforts to formulate and scale up the implementation of effective, evidence-based policies, strategies, interventions and activities on Child and Adolescent Health and Development, including newborn care and the Integrated Management of Child Health (IMCI) Strategy, aiming to further reduce mortality and morbidity from major diseases and promote healthy growth and development of children and adolescents.
The incumbent will perform the following duties: Provide strategic technical advice to EM Member States on the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of strategic plans and operational activities in the area of child and adolescent health including newborn care, early childhood development and school health; Coordinate with countries, plan, and manage adapting and updating the child and adolescent health-related strategies and guidelines;Build capacity at the regional and country levels for child health and development programmes, this include (a) assess training needs, (b) develop and finalize relevant training manuals, (c) monitor and evaluate implementation of training plans;Thoroughly review and conduct in-depth child and adolescent health-related research at the regional and country levels to assess the activities and services at different levels and recommend corrective measures;Advocate for WHO initiatives in child and adolescent health and development by preparing and disseminating technical information materials and documents, developing and updating the technical content of CAH/EMRO website; andProvide technical support to school health activities in the EM with focus on health-promoting schools and school health services: and Coordinate operational research in priority health problems, document key achievements and promote implementation of best practices.
Essential: University degree in Medicine and Master Degree in Public Health, Pediatrics, Community Medicine or related field
Desirable: Doctoral degree in Pediatrics, Public Health, or Child Health
Essential: At least 7 years of relevant working experience in managing and implementing programmes in the area of child and adolescent health and development, with some of it obtained in an international environment.
Desirable: Working experience in developing countries and in planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating child health activities including IMCI, newborn health, early childhood development and adolescent health. Relevant experience within WHO, the United Nations or other international organizations is an asset.
In-depth knowledge of child health programmes.Advance skills in planning, training, and evaluation.Demonstrated ability to coordinate, implement, and evaluate child health programme.Demonstrated ability to adapt and work effectively with people of different cultures and backgrounds.

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 77,326 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 1940 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
