GENERAL SUMMARY

The Medical Specialty Operations Manager reports to the Administrative Director of Medical Staff Services. The Medical Specialty Operations Manager works closely with physicians, clinical staff, administrative staff, and various ancillary and support departments to coordinate the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of care delivery across the enterprise. Provides leadership oversight for multiple medical practices that may include acute services, such as lab and imaging departments. Activities involve but are not limited to, project management, coordination of population health projects, operations management, capital and operating budget oversight, new service development, strategic planning, and quality improvement projects to produce and sustain results in all five of SOMC’s strategic values, Service, Teamwork, Safety, Quality, and Finance.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required

Bachelor’s Degree in a health-related field or equivalent experience in healthcare/management required

Master’s Degree preferred

Licensure:

Ohio licensure as appropriate required (if applicable)

BLS within 90 days of hire required

Experience:

Three years of management experience in a health care setting preferred

Interpersonal Skills:

Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate in a helpful, effective and informative manner in person and on the telephone.

Essential Technical/Motor Skills:

Operate computer, data input, and speak clearly.

Essential Physical Requirements:

Sedentary, some standing and reaching.

Essential Mental Requirements:

Calculations, analyzing, forecasting, teaching, attention to detail, problem solving.

Essential Sensory Requirements:

Ability to hear, see and verbalize.

Responsible for the financial performance of areas of responsibility, including budgeting, cost control, pricing strategies and revenue generation.

Sets clear goals and develops a strategic plan to achieve goals, identifies key performance indicators and growth opportunities.

Builds and leads high-performing teams.

Hire, train, and mentor team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.

Prioritize patient and customer satisfaction by maintaining a deep understanding of customer needs and preferences

Works closely with Medical Staff Leaders to support and coordinate physician and leadership recruitment and retention, including peer referencing and physician interviewing.

Complete market analysis by staying informed about industry trends, competitor offerings, and market dynamics.

Ensures that quality of service is a priority by establishing and monitoring quality standards.

Implements quality control processes and continuously seeks ways to improve care delivery.

Identifies and mitigates risks and develops contingency plans to address them.

Explore new technologies, methodologies, and approaches to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Ensures compliance with relevant laws and regulations by auditing and staying up to date with legal requirements and implementing necessary measures.

Ensures coordination and alignment of clinical services across the enterprise.

Serves as a mediator to promote conflict resolution among staff, providers, and administration.

Facilitates change management and leads major projects/initiatives such as operational restructuring, new service development, new department / practice startup, closure, and capital projects.

Responsible for leading quality and payer incentive programs, providing staff and provider education on such programs, and promoting accountability for performance.

Develops effective policies and procedures.

Develops effective policies and procedures.

Responsible for ongoing professional development in healthcare leadership.

Performs other duties as assigned.
