BACKGROUND
The IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) is a membership Union composed of both government and civil society organisations. IUCN’s mission is to influence, encourage and assist societies throughout the world to conserve the integrity and diversity of nature, and to ensure that any use of natural resources is equitable and ecologically sustainable. With over 75 years of experience, it harnesses the experience, resources and reach of its more than 1,400 Member organisations and the input of more than 15,000 experts. IUCN is the global authority on the status of the natural world and the measures needed to safeguard it. The IUCN Secretariat has offices located all around the world and is headquartered in Gland, Switzerland.

Every four years, the IUCN membership adopts a quadrennial Programme that guides the work of the Union, especially that of the IUCN Secretariat. The Secretariat implements the IUCN Programme through a growing portfolio of over 400 projects across the world that are designed to respond to country, donor, and IUCN priorities.

The “Scaling up Nature-based Solution through Mangrove Restoration in Ca Mau Peninsula” project funded by Hyundai and GNI supports mangrove conservation as a Nature-based Solution by restoring or replicating integrated mangrove shrimp farms that are profitable and environmentally friendly, thereby enhancing community resilience to climate change and other shocks. The project aims to promote Nature-based Solutions (NbS) through mangrove restoration in the integrated mangrove-shrimp farms in the Ca Mau peninsula. The project has three main objectives (1) Planting 120,000 mangrove trees (e.g. Rhizophora apiculate and Avicennia marina) in integrated mangrove shrimp farms in the Ca Mau peninsula (2) Supporting forest-friendly aquaculture practices to increase forest cover and (3) Demonstrating the application of OECMs in the integrated mangrove shrimp farms in Ca Mau.

The MD Field Officer will play an important role in the project team by supporting project manager on a range of activities and tasks as the project moves through its initial start-up and project approval stage, and eventually begins implementation in Ca Mau, Bac Lieu and Soc Trang.

The MD Field Officer will be based in Ca Mau. The position requires periodic travel to the project’s target sites as required for project activities.
