POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Location NT, TAS, NSW or VIC

Employment Status: Full time Ongoing, subject to 6 months’ probation

Classification & Salary:

  • MSC Organiser 1.1, $87,006 full time per annum + 15.4% superannuation.
  • Darwin Remote Localities Allowance of $7,118.14 per annum is also payable on a fortnightly basis for NT region only.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION

The primary function of this role is to engage with union members and non-members to further industrial campaigns, achieve outcomes and grow and retain union membership.

MSC Outbound Organisers also provide information, support and advice to members on issues that affect their working lives. The MSC Outbound Organiser operates in a very dynamic, complex and constantly changing environment requiring flexibility and openness to new ideas and approaches.

The MSC Outbound Organiser is an entry-level position with potential career development to a workplace organising role. A comprehensive training program is provided.

About the role

As an MSC Organiser, you will primarily be responsible for:

  • Calling members and non-members
  • Conducting persuasive conversations about industrial and workplace campaigns, joining the union or retaining membership
  • Provide initial advice and direct members to further information or assistance
  • Identifying active members in a workplace
  • Updating or adjusting member details on internal databases
  • Recording outcomes and reporting to other teams within the union

The position will report to the Director of the MSC and the Team Leader and will be focused on meeting key union objectives of:

  • helping members achieve fairness at work, job security, and the best possible pay and decent conditions
  • being a union that most employees want to join
  • promoting our members’ issues in the public and political arena

  • An ability and confidence to inspire, engage, develop and lead people to take action through positive conversations.
  • A high level of interpersonal and communication skills

  • A strong eagerness to work with people from diverse backgrounds to make a difference.

SELECTION CRITERIA

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITY

Essential

  • A commitment to union values and principles, helping others and making a contribution to society
  • Committed to high service standards
  • Demonstrated high-level communication skills
  • Confident and enjoys speaking with people over the phone
  • Capable of dealing with peak periods during industrial campaigns
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Excellent record-keeping and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to use commercial software packages, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience working with a member relationship database, or similar database

Desirable

  • Experience as a union activist or delegate
  • Involvement in union, community, student, environment or other campaigns/collective activities
  • Previous experience processing payments and membership records over the phone
  • Experience in outbound calling ,survey data collection or persuasive conversations
  • Answering industrial inquiries and advising delegates and members
  • Managing individual industrial cases such as Workers Compensation
