The New South Wales Nurses and Midwives’ Association (NSWNMA) in association with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation New South Wales Branch (ANMF NSW Branch) seeks a Member Support Officer to join the State-wide Support team within the Member Rights Centre (MRC) on a 6-month temporary full-time basis.
In this role you will:
- Provide information advice to individual members
- Provide representation at workplace level for individual members and specific member groups
- Participate and assist in organising around workplace issues
- Negotiate and follow up with management to achieve outcomes for individual members
- Participate in strategies to recruit new members
- Participate in strategies to retain existing members
- Identify potential for and forms new branches where appropriate
- Identify issues and proposes strategies for resolving same
- Provide written reports as requested for Council and Committee of Delegates and or Elected Officers
- Contribute positively to the MRC culture
- Refer relevant matters to appropriate officers within the Association or externally as appropriate
- Maintain correct and current member file notes on issues
- Provide appropriate written correspondence in relation to matters they are dealing with
- Identify potential new activist or member groups
- Provide support and assistance to other officers. i.e. Information Officers, Organisers etc.
- Contribute to team knowledge and team work
- Work positively with other teams within the Association
- Maintain up to date knowledge and skills
- Initiate and participate in activities to continuously improve service delivery.
- Participate in the “on call” roster for MRC
- Contribute to the annual conference report for MRC
- Support and mentors new members of MRC
- Work in accordance with NSWNMA / ANMF NSW Branch Policy and Procedures.
To be considered for this position you require:
Essential:
- Demonstrated commitment to the union movement
- Demonstrated ability to analyse individual member issues and respond accordingly
- Demonstrated ability to articulate complex issues clearly
- Demonstrated ability to produce a high standard of complex correspondence
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex issues simultaneously
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise competing workplace demands
- A good command of English language both written and oral
- Understanding of industrial relations in the workplace
- PC and office administration skills
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Full Drivers’ Licence
- Eligibility to obtain a Federal Right of Entry permit.
Desirable:
- Recognised nursing qualification
- Experience working in a health related field
- Experience working in a union and or industrial environment
- Relevant tertiary qualifications i.e. Industrial Relations, Law, Management
- Ability to speak a second language.
