The Los Angeles World Affairs Council and Town Hall (LAWACTH) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering global and domestic understanding among the people of Los Angeles. Through a wide array of speaking programs, cultural events, and educational initiatives, LAWACTH aims to provide Angelenos with insightful perspectives on various global issues.
Having hosted over 250 foreign heads of state, US Presidents, and distinguished thought leaders, LAWACTH stands as the largest nonprofit speaker’s organization in Southern California. Annually, we organize approximately 40 events covering a diverse range of topics, including politics, economics, culture, technology, and foreign policy.
Since its inception in 1953, the Los Angeles World Affairs Council has been a hub for intellectual exchange and global dialogue. Initially founded to bridge cultural divides and foster understanding of international affairs, LAWAC has continually evolved, becoming a dynamic force in shaping the intellectual landscape of Los Angeles. Today, LAWACTH serves as the “Center Stage of Ideas,” catalyzing positive change by providing a platform for diverse voices to come together and address pressing global challenges. JOB SUMMARY
LAWACTH is looking to fill the position of a full-time Membership and Development Manager. The Manager serves as a key driver of organizational growth and sustainability through effective membership management, fundraising, and sponsorship acquisition. Responsibilities include managing member recruitment and retention, leading fundraising efforts, and actively pursuing sponsorship opportunities.
– Develop and execute comprehensive strategies to increase membership engagement, retention, sponsorship, and revenue generation for the organization.
– Cultivate and maintain relationships with current and prospective members, donors, sponsors, and partners to support the organization’s mission and objectives.
– Lead membership recruitment and retention efforts, including the development of targeted campaigns, events, and initiatives.
– Implement year-round fundraising strategies and campaigns to secure financial support from individuals, foundations, corporations, and other funding sources.
– Actively pursue sponsorship opportunities by identifying potential sponsors and presenting sponsorship packages.
– Collaborate with the Communications Manager to develop compelling messaging and materials to support fundraising efforts.
– Foster and sustain connections with existing and potential donors by organizing cultivation activities, including coordinating special events and galas.
– Manage the membership and contacts database, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records and utilizing data to inform decision-making and targeted outreach.
– Ensure accurate processing of membership and renewals and acknowledgment of donations.
– Manages relationships, event invitations, and post-event follow-up with up to fifty Los Angeles County high school contacts.
Qualifications
– Non-profit fundraising experience required – such as donor/member campaigns, and event sponsorships.
– Excellent oral and written communication skills.
– Preferred experience with Salesforce CRM, Microsoft Office suite (i.e. Word, Excel).
– Interface experience with members, board of directors, funders, foundations, sponsors and partners highly desired.
– Bachelor’s degree preferred. Familiarity with international/foreign relations and political science a plus.
– Successful candidate must be a self-starter and able to work in a team environment.
– Proven administrative skills; capable of multitasking in a fast-paced setting.
– Ability to work at some weekday evening events/webinars.
