Family Life is a recognised Employer of Choice. Work with us and be part of our supportive, people-focused culture.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join Family Life as our Men’s Practice and Program Development Specialist (MPPDS) in a part-time, 12 month fixed-term contract role based at Sandringham and Frankston sites (Bunurong land). The MPPDS will lead the co-design, implementation and coordination of two new, innovative pilot programs for men who have used family violence.

Leading a team of practitioners charged with delivering these programs, you will also assist with the provision of clinical supervision as required. The MPPDS will coordinate and chair working groups/advisory committees that will be trusted with overseeing the clinical governance and practice quality of these programs.

The MPPDS will be required to assist Family Life’s practice and development team with delivering on their annual-operational plan as required.

Key Responsibility Areas

The MPPDS will be responsible for the development and implementation of two bespoke interventions for men who have used family violence.

The first innovative program will draw on the traditional work of Men’s Behaviour Change Programs (MBCP), with the addition of an individual psychotherapeutic component. The second program will focus on working with fathers who have used family violence.

The MPPDS will ensure that both projects are implemented in a manner that is in line with organisational timelines and funders’ expectations. The MPPDS will co-design the practice guidelines and content for both programs, in a manner that is reflective of Family Life’s ethos for working with men who have used family violence.

These pilot programs will be MARAM aligned, prioritising the safety of women and children at all times, whilst promoting a holistic and progressive approach to working with men who have used family violence. The successful applicant will also assist with the qualitative and quantitative data collection required for the evaluations attached to each of these programs.

Our Ideal Candidate

Graduate or Postgraduate qualified in counselling, social work, psychology or a relevant discipline, you have demonstrated project management expertise with prior success in the delivery of complex, innovative projects within the community sector.

In past roles you have worked extensively with men who have used family violence and are familiar with the accompanying complexities and statutory bodies that often intersect with men who have used family violence. With a strong comprehension of humanistic and psychodynamic counselling modalities, you also have a refined understanding of attachment theory and a demonstrated understanding of a systems approach to working with vulnerable families.

With a passion for innovation and a strong desire to build on the current paradigms for working with men who have used family violence, your ability to understand and articulate the impact of men’s violent and coercive behaviours on women and children will stand you in good stead.
