Are you a Psychology, Sociology, or Criminology graduate with a sincere interest in trauma and mental health? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you!GSL are seeking a Mental Health LSA role for a Psychology Graduate for a mixed school, catering to ages 5-16 with a focus on social, emotional, and mental health, trauma, and restorative practices. As an LSA, you will be given CPD by both GSL and the school, with training progressing after the first two weeks. Our approach is to tap into the interests of each child, from hairdressing to gaming to sport to photography to therapeutic Lego work, and work in small, focused classes of 3-6, where all LSAs are 1:2 with their students. We place a big focus on core subjects, particularly functional Maths and Literacy, so that our students can use these skills in the wider world, not just for a grade. As you will be working with very vulnerable children, each with a different context and EHCPs for their mental health and potential special educational needs, restorative and holistic processes are woven into their learning, with a focus on vocational and core skills.Role Description:As a Mental Health LSA, you will be working with students who have experienced traumas and have missed substantial chunks of their schooling. Some students may have an attendance record as low as 6% over the last academic year. The school has a sustained focus on Restorative Practices, and you will need to build trusting, solid relationships with students while demonstrating the value of their education to them.This is a very challenging role, any experience of working with charities like Hestia and Nacro would be of real interest.
