Job Description

About Us

The King’s community is dedicated to the service of society. King’s Strategic Vision 2029 sets out our vision for the future, shaped around five priority areas: educate to inspire and improve; research to inform and innovate; serve to shape and transform; a civic university at the heart of London; and an international community that services the world. Our ambitious Education Strategy sets out the actions that we must take to transform how we teach, how and where our students learn and how we support them during their time with us.

The Counselling & Mental Health Support (CMHS) service is part of the Students & Education Directorate, a collection of wide-ranging professional services in place to support King’s students and their education. As a directorate we manage the student lifecycle from application to graduation, to ensure a coherent and seamless student experience and effective administrative processes, working closely with King’s faculties to do so.

Although situated within CMHS the Mental Health Outreach Manager role is not a clinical position, and involves significant liaison and work with teams and staff right across the university, both in central services and in Faculties, as well as with KCLSU and other staff fora such as the King’s 100.

About the Role

The Mental Health Outreach & Training Manager will lead, in collaboration with the relevant Academic and Professional Services leads, on three key areas.

Firstly, to develop and take primary responsibility for the delivery, alongside the Head of Mental Health & Counselling Outreach and Training, of a new service to support student-facing staff with advice and guidance on managing concerns relating to student mental health and wellbeing. The successful candidate will be an experienced clinical practitioner, with supervisory or training expertise, capable of co-designing and delivering a new service. They will have significant experience in understanding how to conduct dynamic risk assessments, linking best practice guidance to recommended actions, and a full understanding of the mental health and wellbeing needs of students in Higher Education. The successful candidate will be confident in regard to the monitoring of delivery and outcomes. They will demonstrate a keen understanding of the needs of student-facing staff colleagues and will work closely with Student Services, Faculty and Organisational Development colleagues to ensure that the needs of both staff and students are integrated into all aspects of delivery.
