About this role

  • Casual shifts – out of hours & weekend work required
  • Safe Space is an after-hours service that operates 7 days a week. From Monday to Friday staff will work from 4.30pm until 9.30pm, while Saturday and Sunday hours will vary
  • Be responsible for providing quality psychosocial and recovery support services in partnership with guests, families and/or carers
  • Utilise your personal experience of mental illness to engage with guests and their carers/family

Duties

By drawing on your lived experience that will play a unique role in encouraging and supporting the recovery of guests by:

  • Supporting guests to deescalate distress at presentation to the Safe Space service
  • Providing information and support
  • Building capacity and facilitate guests to identify goals

Skills & experience

  • Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or similar qualification relevant to Mental Health services
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in supporting people in distress
  • Lived experience of your own mental illness and a rich understanding of your own processes of recovery
  • A willingness to purposefully use your own story to help others further their own understanding of recovery
  • Blue Card, Police Check, Open Drivers Licence
  • Must be fully COVID-19 vaccinated

Desirable

  • experience and knowledge around strength based, trauma informed support
  • Experience facilitating or supporting the facilitation of group interactions
