Social, Emotional, Mental Health Learning Support AssistantTeaching Personnel has a longstanding partnership with a specialist Social, Emotional, Mental Health (SEMH) provision/Pupil Referral Unit located in Salford. The provision’s main focus is to create a supportive and nurturing environment where students who are unable to attend mainstream education can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.Position OverviewWe are seeking a compassionate and resilient Support Assistant to join our dynamic team. This role is ideal for anyone with a background in criminology or psychology who are eager to apply their knowledge and skills in a practical setting while making a significant impact on young lives.Why This Role?As a Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with various SEMH issues, including anxiety, depression, and suicidal tendencies. This position offers an invaluable opportunity to work closely with a multidisciplinary team, providing personalised care and guidance to ensure each student’s well-being and academic progress.Key Responsibilities

  • Support and Guidance: Provide one-on-one and group support to students, helping them navigate their educational and emotional challenges.
  • Safe Learning Environment: Foster a safe and supportive learning environment conducive to social, emotional, and academic development.
  • Coping Strategies: Assist students in developing coping strategies and resilience skills to manage their emotions and behaviors effectively.
  • Progress Monitoring: Monitor and record student progress, behaviors, and emotional well-being, maintaining accurate and confidential records.
  • Relationship Building: Actively engage with students to build positive relationships, trust, and rapport, promoting a sense of belonging and self-worth.
  • Behavioral Interventions: Collaborate with colleagues to implement behavioral interventions and de-escalation techniques when necessary, ensuring the safety of all students and staff.
  • Academic Support: Support our inclusion group and contribute to the academic progress of students working towards GCSE-level qualifications.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Educational Background: Degree in criminology, psychology, or a related field is desirable but not essential. This role is perfect for anyone looking to gain practical experience.
  • Empathy and Resilience: Empathy, patience, and resilience in supporting students through difficult situations and behaviors.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of students and the SEMH provision.
  • Background Check: Subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
