About the role
The Earn and Learn Internship program is part of the Victoria’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Workforce Strategy 2021-24. It aims to build a diverse, robust community mental health and wellbeing workforce by provide Certificate IV in Mental Health and Diploma of Mental Health students with on the job training and learning, streamline a transition into the workforce and create future employment opportunities.
We are seeking 14 empathic, self-motivated Mental Health & Wellbeing Interns for a 12-month fixed term, full time internship opportunity at one of the following services:

Key responsibilities
Youth and Adult Prevention and Recovery Care / Housing with Support / Youth Residential Rehabilitation Service / Adult and Older Adult Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals:
- Support clients to get the support, care and treatment that is important to them through a stages approach to recovery.
- Plan, develop, deliver and evaluate group work programs that will assist clients to build their skills, focus on their recovery and work towards transitioning back to their natural community.
- Provide support to clients’ families and carers as appropriate.
- Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to client’s recovery goals.
headspace – Community Engagement:
- Develop, implement and evaluate community engagement and health promotion programs in collaboration with young people, their families, friends and carers, other headspace staff and external stakeholders, such as local councils and schools.
- Plan, develop, deliver and evaluate group work programs that will assist young people and potentially their families, friends and carers to build their skills, social connections and focus on their recovery.
- Make linkages and build relationships and referral pathways to maintain or create a range of local supports for young people and their families, friends and carers that facilitate them living the life of their choosing in their own community.
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications are not required but evidence of enrolment and commitment to completing the Certificate IV in Mental Health or Diploma of Mental Health is required.
- Some experience in working with people with mental health and alcohol and other drug issues, complex needs and with their families and carers is desirable.
- Ability to provide information and mentoring to build capacity, establish social relationships, create community networks and access to relevant services.
- Understanding of facilitating group activities is desirable.
- Understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with service providers, clinical teams, and key stakeholders.
