Job Summary

The MHPSS Case Manager will provide psychological and social support, such as basic counseling, to refugees, internally displaced persons, and vulnerable host community members at the primary healthcare clinics, and community-based settings at field level in Koya districts in Erbil governorate, according to the needs.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete intake assessments using IMC’s Iraq Mental Health Case Management Toolkit which includes, mental health case management forms, to be followed according to the case management approach and IASC guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records of case/beneficiaries’ files on daily basis and report the client files to the line manager through the DHIS2 platform.
  • Work with all mental health patients seen by at least two members of the Mental Health Case Management team to fill in the care plans that will be reviewed jointly with the beneficiary and the Case Management team every 2 months, 4 months, and 6 months. In case of an emergency, it shall be reviewed at the end of the first and the third month.
  • Work closely with members of the Mental Health Case Management team (Clinical Psychologist, and Psychiatrist) to develop and follow up on the intervention plans.
  • Conduct mapping of services in areas of operations (in Koya) and document it in the Referral Matrix for use to ensure accurate referrals. Update the Referral Matrix every three weeks.
  • The MHPSS Case Manager will be an essential source of providing accurate referrals and ensure adequate follow up of all cases referred, including recommendations to be provided before making referral of patients to the nearest MH Hospital when needed upon consultation with the IMC’s Psychologist and/or Psychiatrist, alongside MHPSS Officer, and document the client files accordingly.
  • Conduct awareness raising on MHPSS, basic counseling, group support and household visits, and document it.
  • Prepare and conduct psychoeducation sessions for mental health cases and their respective family members using the relevant forms and MHPSS booklets developed and approved by IMC Iraq’s MHPSS Technical Unit.
  • Prepare and support the provision of mental health awareness-raising sessions for individuals and groups at the PHCCs and local community centers at field level using the relevant forms and background documentation developed and approved by IMC’s Iraq MHPSS Technical Unit.
  • Comprehend, fully understand, and be committed to IMC’s Mental Health Case Management Model.
  • Promote and introduce International Medical Corps (IMC) mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services to institutions, centers, PHCCs, and individuals.
  • Prepare and submit reports to line manager on a weekly basis.
  • Attend trainings organized by IMC and/or other organizations when such trainings are planned and implemented.
  • Prepare, take-part, and document minutes of case management technical team meetings.
  • Co-facilitate trainings on Psychological First Aid (PFA), and Detection and Referral of Mental Health Cases, among other topics when and/or where needed.
  • Offer mentorship and on-the-job training for partners’ staff and other stakeholders, when or where needed.
  • Report directly to IMC’s MHPSS Officer for Erbil.
  • Provide guidance to IMC’s Community Outreach Workers who provide information about services available in the operational areas to clients and/or community members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Typically, bachelor’s or master’s degree in psychology or social work. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
• Typically, 1 to 2 years of relevant and progressive experience in the field of MHPSS and/or social work engaging with vulnerable populations.
• Previous work experience with local and/or international non-governmental organizations is a plus.
• A native professional level of fluency in Kurdish, and Arabic (reading/writing/speaking). Good level in reading, writing, and speaking in English is an asset.
• Adheres to ethical considerations and principles regarding working with vulnerable populations.
• Familiar with the local community in targeted locations. Preferably be living at one of the targeted locations or surrounding areas.
• Be able to work in emergency situations and respond to the requirements in strict deadlines.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Acquired knowledge of the IASC Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings, and IASC Guidelines. Travel Required: 90% at field level in Koya districts in Erbil Province visiting the PHCCs, CBOs, and other service providers existing in the respective areas. 10% of estimated time as per program requirements and needs to travel to IMC’s office in Erbil or may require travel to locations outside of Erbil, if required.
Scope (Financial / Non-Financial): Payment of monthly salary to be paid through bank account after the elapse of month.
