Location: Hybrid – Remote and Haifa, Israel

Background

Humanity Crew is an international aid organization dedicated to the provision of mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) to disaster-affected communities across preparedness, critical response and recovery. Our mission is to work with communities to improve the well being and mental health of vulnerable populations through innovations and sustainable interventions.

Purpose of the Position

As the Director of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), you are responsible for ensuring quality, accountability, content, implementation and growth of all Humanity Crew programmes. You will be leading a global team including partners dedicated to delivering high-quality MHPSS programs within Humanity Crew’s global responses. You will be instrumental in shaping strategy, ensuring minimum technical standards, retaining the Humanity Crew culture and foundations of practice. You will foster partnerships to support and advocate for mental health and psychosocial support as the central footprint to any humanitarian interventions.

Key responsibilities

Strategic leadership

  • Direct the strategy to refine and promote the specialism and expertise underlying Humanity Crew’s added value to the MHPSS DRR global agenda, need and advocacy.

Programme content

  • Ensure program quality through the development of guidelines, standards, resources, and capacity-building initiatives for MHPSS staff, volunteers, incentive workers, and partners.
  • Lead on the operationalisation of quality markers of MHPSS programs, ensuring they are accessible, available, acceptable and adaptive to operational contexts.
  • Design comprehensive training materials and programs to build the capacity of staff and volunteers, enhancing their skills and competencies in delivering high-quality MHPSS services.

Coordination and Representation

  • Represent Humanity Crew in global, regional, and national forums, working groups, and strategic partnerships related to MHPSS.
  • Foster strong collaborative relationships with relevant stakeholders, including local communities, NGOs, governmental bodies, and academic institutions.

Team Management and Development:

  • Lead a diverse team of MHPSS professionals, promoting a culture of continuous learning, ethical practice, and compassionate care.
  • Build the team through identification of key roles to be added, mobilize resources and add these groups to evolve the Humanity Crew MHPSS approach.
  • Ensure the well-being of MHPSS staff and volunteers, including mechanisms for stress management and psychological support.

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning

  • Promote a culture of learning and adaptation by incorporating monitoring and evaluation feedback into program and strategy development.
  • Collaborate with research institutions to contribute to evidence-based practices in the field of humanitarian MHPSS interventions.
  • Ensure evidence-based practices grounded in the Humanity Crew database as well as global best practice, and leverage these practices into emerging research of MHPSS active and planned programming.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Doctorate) in Psychology, Psychiatry, Social Work, Art Therapy or related field with a focus on mental health and psychosocial support services – essential.
  • Minimum of 5 years of full-time professional experience in mental health or MHPSS – essential.
  • At least 5 years humanitarian field experience including crisis and conflict settings; This experience should showcase competencies in strategic planning, resource management, and the successful implementation of complex initiatives – essential.
  • Proven leadership and team management experience, including working with multidisciplinary and multicultural teams – essential.
  • Strong understanding of IASC Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings and Sendai Framework – essential.
  • Excellent advocacy, communication, and negotiation skills, with the capability of high-level representation for the organization in both formal and informal contexts – essential.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to field locations – essential.
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in additional languages relevant to Humanity Crew’s work (e.g., Arabic, Turkish, French, Spanish) – essential.
  • Experience in senior management team roles and capability of assuming decision making for the organization if needed – preferred.
