RES is looking for a Scientist II with two+ years of relevant work experience based out of Orlando, FL office.
The mission: our Florida operation is growing and is in need of an Scientist II to assist with fieldwork and report preparation. You will have the opportunity to expand your experience with natural resource evaluations and environmental permitting, while learning from our experienced team of senior scientists!
You will work with both small and large teams on projects requiring multidisciplinary expertise in Central Florida and, sometimes, throughout Florida. We therefore are looking for a skillful COMMUNICATOR, who will be able to navigate complex projects. While you will be properly trained, the team is expecting you to be a SELF-STARTER who enjoys solving problems and independently working on solutions for clients.
What your day-to-day might look like?
Playing a critical role on projects for the Florida Department of Transportation, private developments, municipal clients, private and public utility sector clients, and mitigation banks, 70% of the time you will be working in the field. Tasks you will be accomplishing include:
- wetland delineations and functional assessments,
- wildlife habitat evaluations,
- collection of environmental data (wetland and upland plant identification, hydric soil evaluation, wildlife occurrences including gopher tortoise burrow mapping, water levels, water quality samples, etc.).
Note that we perform these tasks in Florida’s hot, humid environment for extend periods of time, in natural and disturbed land settings with potential exposure to biting and stinging insects, venomous snakes and spiders, wild animals and other hazards, so being an avid outdoorsperson is necessary to thrive in this position.
30% of the time you will be in the office, assisting in the preparation of reports and permitting documents for submittal to clients and state, federal and local regulatory agencies. Technical Writing skills are paramount, so be ready to showcase them during the interview.

Qualifications
We would love to talk to you if you have many of the following:
- B.S. in an environmental science-related field (such as but not limited to ecology, forestry, botany, geology, soils, hydrology, etc.)
- Experience conducting wetland delineations and wetland functional assessments including knowledge of Florida ecosystems, flora and fauna
- Experience conduction wildlife habitat assessments and surveys for threatened and endangered species of plants and animals
- Experience in using GPS and GIS for collecting data collection and tools, and knowledge of field sampling procedures, equipment, and safety protocols.
What will make you stand out?
- Knowledge of State and Federal environmental regulations and laws relating to wetlands and wildlife
- Certification including Professional Wetland Scientist, Authorized Gopher Tortoise Agent, ISA Certified Arborist, etc.
