Context

The Bahamas, with its unique geographic location and socio-economic dynamics, faces various challenges in managing migration flows. The archipelago serves as a transit, origin and destination point, while also grappling with internal displacement issues. Disparities in access to services and opportunities persist, affecting both migrant and host communities. Vulnerable groups require specialized support and protection mechanisms. In response to these challenges, the United Nations International Organization for Migration (UN IOM) is committed to supporting the Bahamian government in addressing these complex issues and ensuring the protection and well-being of migrants and affected communities.
As a Support and Learning Volunteer with UN IOM in The Bahamas, the selected candidate will become immersed in a dynamic environment where your contributions will directly impact the lives of migrants and host communities. The role encompasses a range of activities aimed at supporting ongoing projects and initiatives while gaining valuable experience and knowledge in the field of migration management.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the National Project Officer (NPO), the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
1. Provide support overall support to the IOM Bahamas team.
2. Assist in the implementation of migration-related projects, including logistical support, reporting, data collection and analysis.
3. Support visibility and external communication of IOM activities in the country.
4. Assist the NPO in fundraising activities, including support in the identification and development of new projects.
5. Support the day-to-day tasks and liaison with the Caribbean Coordination office.
6. Engage in advocacy effort to raise awareness about migration issues among policymakers, the media, and the public.
7. Engage in projects that aim to understand different communities’ needs, challenges, and perspectives.
8. Support capacity-building activities for local partners and stakeholders on migration management, including training workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions.
9. Assist in documenting project activities, preparing progress reports, and capturing lessons learned for future programming.
10. Embrace opportunities for cultural exchange and mutual learning with migrants and host communities, fostering understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives and experiences.
11. Take advantage of learning opportunities provided by the UN IOM team, including training sessions, seminars, and networking events, to enhance your understanding of migration issues and develop relevant skills.
