The Sustainable Growth Unit at UNDP Rwanda is seeking a graduate student with an interest in youth empowerment, natural resources and environment management issues to assist in the implementation of the UNDP youth empowerment and environment management portfolios. This post will give the intern the opportunity to assist in supporting programme management, coordination and monitoring and evaluation of the UNDP natural resources and environment Programme, youth empowerment programme. The specific internship duties, listed below, includes project management, support in monitoring and evaluation as well as communication.
OBJECTIVE
The M&E Intern will support the Sustainable Growth Unit in various tasks related to data collection, analysis, reporting, and program evaluation. The intern will gain hands-on experience in monitoring and evaluating projects and contribute to the organization’s efforts to assess the effectiveness and impact of our programs

Under the supervision of the Programme Specialist, the intern will:

- Good knowledge of Microsoft tools (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
- Excellent writing and communication skills;
- Good knowledge of data collection and analysis skills
- Ability to multi-task and address competing priorities.
- Knowledge and understanding of gender and development issues.
- Interest and motivation in working in an international organization;
- Good analytical skills in gathering and consolidating data and research for practical implementation and attention to details;
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Outgoing and initiative-taking person with a goal-oriented mind-set;
- Communicates effectively when working in teams and independently;
- Good in organizing and structuring various tasks and responsibilities;
- Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability;
- Responds positively to feedback and differing points of view;
- Consistently approaches work with energy and a positive, constructive attitude.
- Prior experience in monitoring and evaluation or related fields is an asset but not required.
- Currently in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree; or
- Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree; or
- Have graduated no longer than 1 year ago from a master’s degree or equivalent studies.
Field of study: Environmental Economics, Monitoring and evaluation, Economics, Development studies, Statistics, Natural Resources Management or other similar subject at the university level.
IT skills:
- Knowledge of Microsoft tools (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
- Familiarity with data collection and analysis tools such as Stata, SPSS, Kobotoolbox, etc.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required;
- Kinyarwanda and French are an asset
- Knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.

INTERNSHIP CONDITIONS
- UNDP will provide a stipend amount monthly in accordance with the provisions of the UNDP Internship Policy. All expenses connected with the internship (except costs associated with site visits outside of duty station, as described above) will be borne by the Intern or her/his sponsoring entity.
- UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship.
- Interns are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed.
- Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship.
- Interns must provide proof of enrolment in health insurance plan such as mutuele de sante and others.
- Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
- Interns are expected to work full time, but flexibility is allowed for education programmes.
- Interns need to obtain financing for subsistence and make own arrangements for internship, travel, VISA, accommodation, etc.
