About the Role

This is a mid-senior level position working full time as the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Manager on the Safeguarding Resource and Support Hub (RSH), one of Social Development Direct’s largest programmes. The role has been created to provide strategic leadership and oversight of MEL for RSH, which is a complex multi-country programme with several regional and national hubs funded by a range of donors. The role will work across an expanding number of RSH contracts to ensure coherent oversight of the MEL system for the RSH programme (encompassing all RSH hubs).
The objective of this role is to harmonise and streamline the MEL systems across these RSH projects, creating a system that can articulate change and aggregate results across multiple national and regional projects. This is a high-profile and innovative role which will influence and inform Social Development Direct’s approach to MEL for large and complex programmes. We are seeking candidates with significant MEL experience, who thrive on designing MEL systems for challenging contexts, informing decision making and demonstrating impact and complex behaviour change.

Please read on to learn more about the organisation, the RSH programme, the role and who we are looking for.

Summary of role
1 Reports to: RSH Technical Director
2 Location: This is a UK-based role. You must have eligibility to work in the UK.
Our London Head Office works on a hybrid basis (i.e., a mixture of office-based and home working). We are open to flexible working.
3 Appointment term: This is a full time, permanent appointment.
4 Remuneration Package: Band D Senior Technical Specialist: £43,000-£55,000 per annum. (Salary upon appointment is dependent on experience).

This is a Senior Technical Specialist role in SDDirect’s MEL Unit, acting as the MEL Manager for the RSH (please see person specification below). The successful candidate will sit across two teams at SDDirect -the MEL unit and the RSH Central Team – providing an opportunity to work with a range of colleagues. There will be opportunity to take on leadership roles in core MEL Unit tasks and drive forward thinking for SDDirect’s flagship programme RSH. The MEL Unit is a recently established and fast growing unit, expanding its expertise in participatory and feminist MEL.
As the RSH MEL Manager you will focus on the design and implementation of a complex MEL system for complex and challenging safeguarding programme that works with a range of actors including civil society, PSEA networks, governments and UN entities in Humanitarian and Development Contexts. This role will be pivotal in streamlining and strengthening RSH’s MEL ecosystem, utilising innovative methods.
We are seeking an individual with experience and expertise in designing, implementing and managing MEL systems for large, complex programmes operating in multiple countries. The RSH model is now being rolled out more expansively, currently operating in Africa, MENA, South Asia and Eastern Europe. The implementation is contextualised in each location and so the implementation differs slightly by hub, therefore we will need an adaptive MEL system that is able to suit different contexts, monitor differing implementation but aggregate meaningful evidence.
The expansion of RSH is funded by several donors, therefore previous experience working with a range of donors is desirable. The post requires liaising with FCDO advisers and other senior development agency staff, as well as partner organisations from the NGO, academic and private sector and freelance consultants, so you will have strong client and partner relationship skills.
As well as being a strong, collaborative team player, you will have the ability and initiative to work with minimal supervision. You will also demonstrate high levels of technical competency, professionalism and project management skills.
