As an MRI Technologist Sr., you will perform and help develop advanced MRI studies on clinical patients and volunteer research subjects to advance Radiology and Translational Research. This individual interacts with imaging staff, nurses, physicians, patients, and visitors.

This individual will work hand in hand with multiple physicists, physicians and engineers helping to problem solve and provide highly consistent, high-quality research and clinical imaging. Leads workflow and process improvement opportunities. There is a need to be resourceful and work well with a small team of MRI technologists to advance the facility’s growing landscape. Acts as a resource person for technical, workflow and other issues, and demonstrates competence to report or resolve problems according to specific guidelines and prescribed protocols. Operates MRI and related equipment, prepares scan room – equipment, supplies and medications. This individual also maintains images and archives associated with patient data, acts as an Epic Superuser.

Responsibilities:

  • Operates all MRI and related equipment to obtain diagnostic images within magnet safety, OSHA, and other guidelines. Studies consistently meet schedule and quality requirements. Exams are performed efficiently, with a minimum of delays between patients, following established protocols. Equipment and exam troubleshooting is done efficiently and reflects aptitude for anatomy, research protocols, and MR physics.
  • Recognizes and reports equipment malfunctions and other technical issues to the appropriate resources.
  • Prepares patients for studies by providing a clear explanation of the procedure and answering patient and/or family questions. Provides appropriate instructions to obtain maximum patient cooperation and optimal image quality. As needed, assists with patient transfers and positioning pre-/ post patient scanning. Assists and thanks patient at conclusion of the exam.
  • Completes all requested documentation in a timely and efficient manner. All information is complete and accurate at the time it is returned and requires no follow-up. Serves as a subject matter expert for Epic and helps to create/train efficient and accurate workflows and documentation.
  • Identifies opportunities and helps to implement change to improve overall workflow and process improvement to enhance the flow of patients and human subjects while optimizing the overall efficiency of our center’s operations.
  • Required, and is able to, think ahead and multi-task effectively to help prevent or eliminate potential problems that may arise. Is effective when performing daily duties and able to support research studies and teams. Flexible to the diversity of exams, sequences, and protocols used.
  • Prepares exam room prior to patient’s arrival, selecting coils and positioning parameters which promote maximum efficiency and throughput. Is prepared to run specialized sequences when required by research studies.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Successful completion of cross-sectional anatomy class, ability to assimilate new procedures into work routine is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills essential. Strong critical thinking, and attentiveness to detail required.
  • Ability to operate MRI scanners and related computer equipment. Knowledge of appropriate safety protocols for MRI scanners.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations of subjects.
  • Ability to use general medical and first aid equipment; patient lifting devices, and wheelchairs.

Minimum Qualifications:
Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.

Minimum education: Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science or related field with additional training in Radiologic Technology – MRI
Minimum experience: Five years of experience
Certification: Must be ARRT-MR certified and ARRT Registered. Advanced Certification in ARRT-MR within 12 months preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Radiologic Technology, Healthcare or other related field.
