The internship programme is not intended to lead to a career in the ILO. There should be no expectation of further employment at the end of the internship.

Department
The Department for Multilateral Partnerships and Development Cooperation (PARTNERSHIPleads, coordinates and promotes the ILO’s involvement in the UN system and cooperation with other multilateral organizations. In doing so, it cooperates with the ILO Offices in New York, Washington and in other locations hosting international organizations. PARTNERSHIPS also establishes and develops strategic partnerships in close interaction with other clusters and the regions. It is responsible for developing the ILO’s strategy for development cooperation and it leads consultations and negotiations with development cooperation partners. It is responsible for mobilization of voluntary contributions for the ILO’s programme as well as for coordinating development and financial reporting to funding partners. Finally, it facilitates, in close collaboration with other portfolios, the streamlining of work processes and procedures, and provides assistance to enhance service delivery in the field.
The current internship relates to UN, International Financial Institutions, Economic Organizations and Civil Society (UNIFICin PARTNERSHIPS. UNIFICS’ role is to lead, coordinate, and promote the ILO’s active involvement in the UN system and cooperation with other multilateral organizations. A particular focus of the work is active engagement on promoting decent work within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Managed under Outcome A of the Programme and Budget 2022/23, this work is undertaken in the context of the 2019 ILO Centenary Declaration as well as the Global Call to Action for a Humancentred Recovery from the COVID19 Crisis, adopted in June
Learning area
The Intern in UNIFICS, will be exposed to a whole range of areas such as capacity building for ILO constituents on decent work and sustainable development; officewide work on decent work and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; related research and communication activities and preparation of policy papers and project documents.
The Intern will gain experience in working with specialists who are involved in the following tasks: International Financial Institutions, Economic Organizations, Civil Society, within and outside the UN System, UN Reform, and regional and countrylevel field support on sustainable development.
Interns should expect to devote 10% to 20% of their time to administrative tasks.
Education
MSC in international relations, development studies or related field.
The candidate should be enrolled in their final year of graduate degree programme or should have completed such a programme no longer than 1 years ago.
Experience
Work experience in multilateral cooperation or international development and in capacity building would be an advantage.
Languages
Working knowledge of English, knowledge of another one of the ILO’s official languages an advantage.
Competencies
Adaptable to an international, multicultural and multilingual environment, good communication skills and be able to work in a team.

Selection process:
Following a first screening by the Human Resources Development Department (HR, hiring departments will shortlist applicants. You will be directly contacted should an internship opportunity match your profile. If you have not been contacted by any department within six months after your application, you can consider that you have not been selected by any department for this roster. If still eligible, you may apply to the next roster.
If shortlisted, you may be contacted by the hiring department for a written test and/or interview. The ILO may use communication technologies such as Skype, Video or teleconference, email, etc for the assessment and evaluation of candidates.
Stipend/Financial compensations:
As an intern in Geneva, you will receive a stipend of 2450 CHF per month from the ILO, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundatio. If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive 2450 CHF per month. Your travel to Geneva will be at your own expense. In addition to the amounts referred above, each intern shall receive the amount of CHF45 per month, or the equivalent amount in the currency in which the monthly stipend is paid, which is a contribution from the Office towards the cost of medical insurance to cover the period of the internship.
Qualified candidates from nonand underrepresented countries may be eligible for a special fund that provides financial assistance for roundtrip airfare (economy clasin addition to the stipend.
Insurance:
Please note that the ILO does not take responsibility for any costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship. You will be responsible for your own insurance coverage for illness and accidents for the duration of the internship at the duty station (whether Geneva or the fiel.
