Music Composition and Performance Training – Mosul

Within the framework of the Art for Peace (A4P): Youth Leading the Peace, Recovery, and Development in Mosul project, implemented by Aid Gate Organization (AGO) in Mosul, Ninewa Governorate, and funded by OMOANA, a series of youth-focused music and skill development activities are being conducted to promote peacebuilding, social cohesion, and community recovery. The project aims to empower youth to become active leaders in peace, recovery, and development through music composition and performance.

Responsibilities

Music Instruction & Skill Building

Teach foundational and advanced techniques in music performance (instrumental and/or vocal), with emphasis on ensemble and group work.

Design music curricula suitable for different skill levels, age groups, and cultural backgrounds.

Provide constructive feedback to participants to enhance musical skills.

Psychosocial Support Through Music

Use music as a therapeutic tool to help individuals express trauma, stress, or emotions.

Create a safe and inclusive environment encouraging self-expression through music.

Collaborate with mental health professionals when necessary.

Program Development & Management

Plan and conduct regular music workshops or training sessions.

Develop supporting materials and toolkits for sessions (lesson plans, instrument lists, etc.).

Community Engagement & Inclusion

Adapt training to the specific needs of vulnerable groups (e.g., refugees, children, women, people with disabilities).

Respect local cultures, symbols, and musical traditions.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

Conduct pre/post tests and evaluate trainees.

Track participant progress, collect feedback, and document impact.

Provide reports with attendance sheets, testimonials, and sample recordings.

Training Preparation & Delivery

The trainer should prepare the curriculum and training materials with presentations.

Operational Responsibilities

Maintain inventory of musical instruments and request supplies as needed.

Ensure safe, clean, and organized training environments.

Support music performances or community events to showcase participants’ work.

Qualifications of Music Trainer

Must have previous experience delivering music training sessions.

Expertise in both individual and group music instruction.

Strong portfolio showcasing a variety of musical styles and previous projects.

Ability to engage participants of different age groups and skill levels.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Proven ability to plan and conduct interactive and educational music sessions.

Familiarity with safety standards and proper handling of musical instruments.

Flexibility and creativity in adapting sessions to participant needs.

Punctuality and commitment to scheduled sessions.

A degree from a recognized music school or faculty of music is a plus.

Note: The applicant must bring a live performance sample and portfolio of previous compositions and performances.
