About the role

The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Manager will oversee the further development of Bush Heritage’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships and Engagement program. This role will lead the development and deepening of relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders and organisations, Government, businesses, and NGO networks that have an interest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land management and conservation programs.

As the lead of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Committee and a member of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Leadership Team, this role will work closely with Bush Heritage’s Executive Managers and Regional teams to identify opportunities to strengthen and grow Bush Heritage’s partnerships program. Bush Heritage’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander partnership program strives to work with Traditional Custodians to achieve conservation, economic, and caring for country outcomes across the Australian landscape.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Demonstrated passion and experience in nature conservation and a commitment to the objectives and values of Bush Heritage.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Australian Aboriginal societies and cultures, issues affecting Aboriginal peoples in contemporary Australian society, and the diversity of circumstances of Aboriginal peoples.
  • Highly developed management, leadership, networking and influencing capability and a high level of credibility among Aboriginal networks.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively, negotiate, consult, and develop partnerships with Aboriginal peoples.
  • Demonstrated skills in preparing and analysing substantial reports, submissions, and correspondence.
  • Demonstrated ability in presenting information to a wide range of people using techniques appropriate to the audience and subject matter.
  • High level of computer literacy and proficiency with personal computers including word processing, spreadsheet, and data software.
  • Driver’s license.
