Country: Eswatini
Description of the Assignment:
The proposed Big 5 Nature Reserve is situated in the north-eastern part of the Kingdom of Eswatini in the Lubombo region. The project will support the concept of Protected Landscapes in Eswatini through improving the management and conservation of the Lubombo Landscape. The project seeks to contribute to the Eswatini economy by merging 83,329hectares of private and public land for conservation and tourism purposes. The idea is to create a giant park by merging adjoining properties either with existing wildlife or the potential to support wildlife and wildlife reserves of the Lubombo. The resulting giant park will present more benefits for both tourist and wildlife. The Big 5 Reserve will become a tourism hub offering visitors with a variety of wildlife and nature experiences. The proposed project is organized around three components: (1) Establishment of Eswatini’s Big Five Reserve, (2) Ecotourism Infrastructure and Product Development, (3) Human Wildlife Conflict Management and Livelihoods Improvement.
