Background/Context

UN Women emphasize the prevention of violence against women and girls (VAWG) through transforming negative social norms and strengthening the availability of services to women UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.  UN Women Serbia partners with the state stakeholders and civil sector organisations (CSOs) to enhance legislative and policy environment on eliminating VAWG, to advocate for ending VAWG, increase awareness of its causes and consequences, build capacity of partners and promote the need for changing norms towards advancing gender equality and women’s rights.

Under the Project Improving Safety of Women in Serbia and Montenegro (ISWSMNE), funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway, UNW Serbia Office is partnering with Ministry of Justice Montenegro, Commissioner for Protection of Equality and women CSOs, to ensure that women and girls in Serbia and Montenegro live in a society free from violence. The project aims to enhance stakeholders’ capacities in preventing and responding to VAWG through educational and awareness rising activities, while also fostering mutual collaboration. Additionally, rural women will be specifically targeted through project outreach initiatives to increase their understanding of VAWG and discrimination, empowering them to recognize and report such violence, and to use available protection mechanisms.

To effectively share project outcomes, UN Women maintains regular communication with the Donor, ensuring all achievements by project partners are showcased. The donor is committed to amplifying the results of the project through its communication platforms, highlighting the importance of cooperation on visibility between the Donor and UN Women. As such, UN Women endeavors to enhance the visibility of its project partners’ accomplishments and promote their initiatives through accessible communication channels, fulfilling its educational mandate by raising awareness about the detrimental impact of gender discrimination and VAWGs and advocating for zero tolerance towards any form of VAWG.

Duties and Responsibilities

Description of Responsibilities/ Scope of Work

Working under the overall supervision of the UN Women Project Officer and Communication Officer, the consultant will be responsible for the following:

  • Inform the Donor about the achieved results through innovative communication tools (i.e., data visualization, infographics, one-pagers, etc.);
  • Support project CSOs partners, and other project partners as needed, to increase visibility of their project implementation results through providing communication consultancies tailored to their needs;
  • Provide advice and guidance to CSOs partners, and other project partners as needed, to ensure a unified visual identity for all program activities, materials, and events and oversee the qualitative aspects of production, (e.g., quality control, reviews of layout and graphic designs);
  • Support UN Women communication team in promoting project partner’s achievements (providing success stories, event reports, social media posts, visuals, etc.);
  • Draft human impact stories and promote them in traditional and social media in visual appealing way.

Languages:

  • Fluency in written and oral Serbian and English is required.
