The culture team at UNESCO Jordan supports the Jordanian government to preserve and promote tangible and intangible cultural heritage assets in the country. In this context, UNESCO office works in close collaboration and partnership with the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Department of Antiquities, as well as relevant national and local authorities to ensure the sustainable conservation of the country’s rich cultural heritage.
UNESCO promotes socio-economic development of in local communities, focusing on investing in cultural heritage preservation, while also creating decent livelihood opportunities, linking humanitarian and development assistance, mitigating the immediate need for employment creation among women and youth while also paving the way for longer term investments in cultural heritage preservation and sustainable local tourism development. By fostering greater community engagement in preserving both tangible and intangible heritage in Jordan, UNESCO aims to ensure that a significant portion of local communities benefits from the revenue generated by sustainable tourism.
The assignment falls within the framework of the “Green Al-Salt: Public Spaces and Living Heritage for Socio-Economic Development”, a joint project between UN-Habitat and UNESCO. The primary objective of this project is to enhance the socioeconomic well-being and preserve the integrity of Al-Salt City through the revitalization of public spaces and the valorization of living heritage assets.
Under the general supervision of UNESCO Jordan Head of office and the direct supervision of the Culture Project Officer, the incumbent acts as a team member of the Culture Unit of the UNESCO Jordan Office, with an essential responsibility to support in managing, coordinating, planning of the project at hand, in addition to providing technical and professional support for all of UNESCO’s actions and contributions within the project.
The incumbent shall act as a focal point of contact within the project, and in direct coordination with the Project Officer, will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of project activities by the consultants, ensuring all actions are done as per requirements and within the time schedule.

UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc.
The approximate annual starting salary for this post is 38 969 JOD.
