UNICEF Azerbaijan Communication team creates and delivers compelling content to local audiences of parents, young people and UNICEF supporters. We are working to build engaged communities across social media and web platforms while supporting communication for UNICEF programmes such as Health and Nutrition, Education, Social Policy and Child Protection. UNICEF Azerbaijan social media channels are essential for the digital communication strategy and play a central role in packaging and delivering the UNICEF messages to its core audiences.

UNICEF Azerbaijan plans to scale up its presence across various social media platforms with consistent, regular, engaging, and high-quality content on child-related issues. The work of Social Media Consultant is essential for maintaining the steady, consistent, and appealing digital footprint of UNICEF Azerbaijan and communicating all relevant news and updates in relation to UNICEF programmes on social media.

How can you make a difference? 

UNICEF Azerbaijan seeks a Social Media  Consultant to strengthen the Country Office’s digital footprint; lead, manage and expand CO`s digital/social media communication channels to help achieve UNICEF’s advocacy and outreach; to support social media efforts for the various initiatives and social media campaigns, implemented by UNICEF Azerbaijan in order to reach out to young audience, parents, caregivers and vulnerable youth,  on social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Twitter,  etc) with trustworthy and reliable information on child rights, education, healthcare, climate change, social policy,  and other topics.

The Social Media Consultant will lead the production of social media posts in English and Azerbaijani for UNICEF Azerbaijan social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, and others). Under the guidance of the Communication and Advocacy Specialist, the consultant will create and craft compelling content to engage different audiences on UNICEF Azerbaijan digital channels to help achieve the communication and advocacy objectives of UNICEF Azerbaijan and support the programmatic work of the sections:

  • Provide support in managing UNICEF’s country-wide presence on a wide range of social media platforms and guiding wider digital editorial processes.
  • Plan, create and coordinate compelling social media strategies and campaigns, digital content which engages audiences in a dynamic, interactive and meaningful way and sparks conversations around issues related to UNICEF’s mandate.
  • Draft and develop high-quality  social media content in Azerbaijani and English to highlight developments of the UNICEF programmes, including but not limited to data collection, education, child protection, social policy, health and nutrition, youth programmes and others
  • Implement, monitor, and report on social media ad campaigns to amplify reach and engagement, test new messages, and drive traffic to the UNICEF Azerbaijan website.
  • Support the publication of content on the website (Drupal), creating and publishing new pages, articles, web stories, press releases, and others, and updating the homepage regularly.
  • Conduct and support monitoring and analysis of key social media effectiveness indicators, maintaining a metrics table, and analyzing the results of UNICEF Azerbaijan social media channels and website with the production of monthly and ad hoc reports.
  • Plan and implement the editorial calendar for UNICEF Azerbaijan and social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram). This work will involve curating content on specific topics, editing this content for various platforms, planning and implementing social media marketing campaigns.
  • Work in dialogue with programme colleagues to guarantee local content calendar represents the communication and advocacy priorities of the office
  • Explore new digital tendencies and formats, bringing innovative approaches to the digital channels to increase reach and engagement.
  • Perform other communication and content duties as required and agreed upon with the supervisor.

Working under the supervision of the Communication and Advocacy Specialist, Social Media Consultant will have plenty of opportunities to step up and drive projects in its digital outreach and social media engagement.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • Minimum a bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in marketing, communications, international relations, social sciences, languages or a related field
  • At least three years of experience developing and implementing social media content.
  • Proven ability to write flawless copy in Azerbaijan and English 
  • Strong technical knowledge of advertising platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other digital channels.
  • Proven success in managing social media channels to achieve communications and advocacy goals.
  • Clear analytical thinking and strategic vision.
  • Strong creative drive to generate new ideas, find opportunities and solve big challenges.
  • Ability to write sharp, engaging, and persuasive ad copy.
  • Deep technical knowledge of digital marketing and social media metrics measurement, reporting and evidence generation.
  • Strong understanding of human rights, international development, or humanitarian response.
  • Previous experience with the UN and other international organizations is desirable
