The FAO is recruiting a national consultant to support part time the implementation of the project activities in Mauritius. The national consultant will carry out the activities in support of the national technical services in Mauritius that are partners of the project, and the national expert will support the capacity building activities of these partners.
The specialist will work in close collaboration with the FAO technical team, under the supervision of the regional project coordinator of STAT SANOI based at the FAO representation in Madagascar.
Tasks and responsibilities:
- The national specialist will support the implementation and monitoring of project activities in the country as well as other countries where STAT SANOI is implemented (Madagascar, Comoros, Seychelles and Mauritius):
- Support the collection of updated data from the different national partners, the harmonization, analysis and visualization of data.
- Coding additional indicators (poverty and nutrition indicators) chosen to be implemented within the platform.
- Engage in discussion with national stakeholders
- Support and liaise communication of STAT SANOI team members with national stakeholders, especially Ministry of Health and Wellness
- Support the planning of activities for 2024 and disseminate it to national stakeholders
- Support the preparation of synthesis publications about agriculture and food and nutrition security in the country.
- Support the organization of meetings, workshops, trainings, and international technical assistance missions.
- Promote interactions between the technical services of partnering institutions of the action and FAO.
- Participate in the drafting of reports related to the project activities in the country.
- Other related duties as required.
Candidates Will Be Assessed Against The Following:
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s degree or higher in economics, statistics, or other relevant scientific fields.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis and micro/macro data management.
- Have a good command of analytical software such as STATA or R.
- At least 5 years’ experience in data analysis, preferably in the areas of agriculture, food and nutrition security or poverty.
- Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of French.
Technical / Functional Skills:
Will be considered an advantage:
- Knowledge of geographic information systems and geographic software such as QGIS or ArcGIS
- Experience in the field of economics, agriculture or environment.
- Having previously worked with the ministry, such as Agriculture, Environment, Statistics, or other government agencies working in areas related to agriculture or food and nutrition security
