We are looking for an experienced Senior Building Surveyor to join the Let Estate Management Team who can bring their knowledge of building conservation, coupled with their people skills to manage the maintenance and repair across our Sussex and Kent portfolios, based out of the Scotney Castle Estate Office, Lamberhurst.Due to the travel required for this role, you must hold a full driving license with access to your own vehicle, (business mileage is claimable through expenses).We support hybrid working; a combination of home and site/office working, with time spent in the office with the team and on site for the majority of the week.This is a full-time opportunity offering a salary circa £50,000 per annum dependent on experience.What it’s like to work hereAs a Senior Let Estate Building Surveyor for Sussex and Kent you will be part of a thriving and busy team which looks after a wide range of residential, commercial and agricultural properties as well as holiday cottages, across some of the Trust’s finest estates, from Nymans to Winchelsea, Batemans, Sheffield Park and the Bodiam, Sissinghurst and Scotney Castle estates, Ightham Mote, Chartwell and the South Downs (east of Brighton).The team work together to support the management of our let estate assets that, together with the relationships we have with our tenants, underpin our £50m national rental income and which is essential to the delivery of our conservation work. In addition to supporting day-to-day operations, the role offers you an interesting variety of work in amazing locations with no two days being the same.One of the Trust’s biggest priorities is to create a healthy, resilient, natural environment for people and nature. Our portfolio has ambitious plans to support this, and you will be a key part in helping to make this happen and shaping the future of the UK’s biggest private landowning charity and the properties we own and protect.What you’ll be doingWe have big plans to improve the condition and energy efficiency of our Let Estate properties. You’ll be a technical specialist for the team and specify, tender, and manage large projects, working closely with the Building Supervisors and Estate Managers.You’ll provide practical building related supervisory support on repairs and maintenance in your portfolios. You’ll line manage building supervisors and advise estate managers. You’ll plan and deliver a programme of short and long-term cyclical buildings work, compliance works, and improvements (including obtaining Listed Building Consents) for which you’ll have financial responsibility. You’ll act as project manager, lead consultant or commercial client on large projects.You’ll be dealing with conservation issues on historic and listed buildings, undertaking surveys across the portfolio, producing work schedules, tendering quotes from contractors and liaising with tenants to ensure works are planned and coordinated, managing works through to completion.Each of your working day will be unique. You’ll be adaptable, flexible and will need to think outside the box. A flexible working method will be required at times. You’ll need to be focused, organised and skilled in prioritising your work to deal with the unexpected.Who we’re looking forYou can view the full role profile for this role in the document attached.   • A qualification in surveying or architecture (such as MRICS, MCIOB, RIBA, or an equivalent credential)
  • A high-level financial acumen and strong experience of managing large budgets
  • Robust knowledge of building conservation, procurement, maintenance, repair, and asset and contract management
  • Demonstrable experience in design relating to heritage and conservation built assets
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and best practice, including submitting listed building consents
  • Experience in delivering projects in a multi-disciplinary environment and
  • A proven record of working at pace across a varied client base and large geographical area
