Native Plant Specialist – Upper Colorado Environmental Plant Center Meeker, Colorado

Upper Colorado Environmental Plant Center (UCEPC) is looking for an individual with a degree in Natural Resources to join our team of professionals working in native plant and seed production. UCEPC has been testing, developing, and producing native seed and plants used for restoration of disturbed lands since 1975.

In your position, you will work closely with the Manager and Farm Foreman to meet the goals of the business. You will be assisting in field production, trial work of native grasses and forbs, seed processing and greenhouse management.  You will ensure that all aspects of seed production and plant trials are conducted in methods that provide the highest quality seed and best information to our customers. The position salary range is $45,000 to $62,000, depending on experience, qualifications, and education.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with data collection/entry of multiple trials administered by UCEPC
  • Assist Farm Foreman with farming operations such as weeding, irrigation, harvesting
  • Assist the Plant Technician and Farm Foreman with seed cleaning, seed quality testing, and seed inventory management
  • Oversee CSGA field inspection applications, certification paperwork
  • Oversee sales, tracking, and management of Foundation Seed
  • Assist in plant propagation through greenhouse operations
  • Assist with contract reports and planning
  • Produce and maintain detailed records on production inputs and outcomes
  • Present information in technical meetings and publications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Range, Agronomy, Forestry, or related field
  • Competency in computing: word, excel, google docs, etc.
  • Proficiency in written and oral communication skills
  • Plant identification skills
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds

Preferred but not Required

  • Field experience in the realm of Natural Resources
  • Experience with farm machinery and field equipment
