The work of UN Women in Moldova is guided by its new 2023-2027, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for Moldova (2023-2027), , National Programs and Strategies and aims to contribute to the gender-responsive implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Strategic Note focuses on four main areas: 1) Ending Violence against Women; 2) Women’s Leadership and Governance; 3) Women’s Economic empowerment and 4) Humanitarian and Peace development nexus and UN Coordination on Gender equality. 

Communications is a key component of UN Women Moldova Country Office’s work and constitutes a vehicle for ensuring visibility for successful UN Women Moldova initiatives, results and programmes as well as for raising awareness about key issues of gender equality and women’s empowerment. Effective communications also contribute to mobilizing resources as donors would like to see value for money. 

Within this scope, UN Women Moldova Country Office intends to hire a native speaker Russian language Writer/Editor in order to improve the quality of the Russian content of public and corporate communication materials. 

The objective of this Consultancy is to provide high quality writing and editing in Russian, in line with UN Women terminology and with a specific focus on gender equality and women’s empowerment issues, drawing attention to UN Women Moldova work and achievements. The assignment will include writing and editing in Russian language of communication materials, reports and knowledge management materials produced by UN Women Moldova and its implementing partners, making sure that gender terminology is correct and in line with UN Women standards. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Working under the overall supervision of the Communications Officer, the consultant will be responsible for the following:

  • Editing Russian content for UN Women website, including news, stories, multi-media work based on UN Women Corporate guidelines;
  • Editing Russian versions of local communication assets (including graphics, infographics, videos etc.), in line with UN Women terminology;
  • Providing Russian proof-reading/editing of corporate communications materials, including press releases, statements, publications, briefs, reports and concept notes among others, making sure that gender terminology is in line with UN Women standards, ensuring the accuracy of the content;
  • Ensuring that all edited documents concentrate on flow and clarity of argument, sequencing, consistency, as well as correct style and punctuation, spelling and grammar.
  • Providing constructive editorial input, and communicate with team members to effectuate consistent, accurate, and high-quality work product.

The UN Women Moldova relevant programme staff will provide all the necessary inputs for qualitative content elaboration.

Required Skills and Experience

  • A University degree in the domain of Russian philology/linguistics/literature, journalism, communications or in other related domains.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in Writing/Editing, Journalism, Communications or Teaching Russian language;
  • Relevant experience in related areas in UN Women or a UN agency is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Gender related vocabulary and terminology is an asset;

Language:

  • Native language Russian.
  • Good knowledge of English.

 

APPLICATION PROCESS AND SUBMISSION PACKAGE 

Interested candidates must submit via online submission system the following documents/ information to demonstrate their qualification: 

  • Motivation letter to include a brief overview in Russian (unedited text) about which of your previous experiences makes you the most suitable candidate for the advertised position.
  • P11 with past experience in similar assignments; can be downloaded at , a signed copy should be submitted.
  • Financial Proposal (see annex II) The financial proposal should be daily fee for writing/editing and other required work; and
  • Example of writing and/or editing/quality assurance work in Russian– provide two examples carried out in the past 6 months.

In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system (DAW, OSAGI, INSTRAW and UNIFEM), which focused exclusively on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Annex I: Price Proposal Guideline and Template

The prospective Individual Consultant should take the following explanations into account during submission of his/her price proposal.

1.Daily fee

The daily price proposal should indicate a “lump sum amount” which is “all-inclusive”; All costs (professional fees, communications, consumables during field related missions etc.) that could possibly be incurred by the Contractor needs to be factored into the proposed price.

UN Women will not withhold any amount of the payments for tax and/or social security related payments. UN Women shall have no liability for taxes, duties or other similar charges payable by the Individual Contractor in respect of any amounts paid to the Individual Contractor under this Contract, and the Contractor acknowledges that UN Women will not issue any statements of earnings to the Individual contractor in respect of any such payments.

2.Travel costs

No travels are envisaged under the current assignment. In the case of unforeseeable travel, UN Women will ensure transportation outside Chisinau. UN Women will not cover transportation cost within Chisinau.

3.Daily Subsistence Allowance

Not applicable.

4.Currency of the price proposal

The applicants are requested to submit their price proposals in MDL. In case of proposals in other currency, these shall be converted into MDL using the official UN exchange rate for currency MDL conversion to MDL at the date of applications’ submission deadline.
