Natural Resources Program Coordinator (Trail Development and Maintenance)

Pima County is seeking an organized and detail-oriented professional to perform a variety of duties to support the Trails Program within Pima County’s Natural Resources, Parks, and Recreation department. The Pima County Trails Program manages 27 trailheads and over 150 miles of shared-use, non-motorized trails in 10 Pima County open-space parks. In this position, you will be responsible for duties related to trail system planning and development, operations and maintenance of trail-related infrastructure, collection of trail use data, volunteer coordination, and public communication. Along with administrative work, a significant component of this position will be fieldwork, which may require working long days and strenuous activity in remote locations under a variety of weather conditions. 

Some details of the position will include:

  • Trail system planning, design, and construction
  • Inspecting, documenting conditions of, and maintaining trails and trailheads
  • Recruiting, coordinating, and training volunteers
  • Collecting and reporting data on public use of trail facilities
  • Organizing and maintaining tools, supplies, and equipment
  • Operating hand and power tools, and heavy equipment (e.g. compact excavator)
  • Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology to inventory and map trail-related infrastructure
  • Ensuring internal and public program information is updated and accurate
  • Communicating with the public, both orally and in writing, resolving constituent concerns
  • Coordinating with department staff and other organizations to accomplish goals
  • Natural area restoration and revegetation
